How much longer will real-time strategy dominate PC games?

Over one in four games on PC are classified as real-time strategy, the most of any genre, according to the Entertainment Software Association. 

The reason? Games like StarCraft are fun. But they've also been criticized. Common knocks on RTS games include turning gaming into clickfests, the act of button babysitting, and "zerging" or rushing to attack before oppossing forces can setup defenses.

Nevertheless, League of Legends and StarCraft II are more than enough to keep the genre at the top of the charts. But what, if any, do you see giving the RTS genre a run for its money? And to keep the spirit of strategy alive, what gameplay tweaks might help RTS counter said insurgency?

i rly like rts games but at most of them u have to practice a long time untill u are at least only average.

RTS games are my favorites, I know there are tons of really lame clons, but once in a while some really good games appear, supreme commander for example.
RTS will have a long kingdom as PCs favorites.-

If you consider LoL an RTS game then the genre is pretty damn big. Also, they're fun!

RTS will always be on top due to the quick, non-obligatory nature of play.

This, as opposed to the long-term gratification offered by MMORPG's, is what will keep a game at the top.

As for me only Real Strategy Games will last. SC2 is more of a Click-spam which I disslike the most however find the game incredible. Simply not interested in playing with people online (which is bad for a RTS).

Games like League of Legends where Co-Op and skill are really important will last.
In my opinion only Tactic/Strategy games will last long enough. That requires not only skill but also your thinking and forseeing what might happen.

RTS has always been a great PC genre. It requires you to micro and macro manage you and your base. It takes a lot of skill and concentration. You really have to know what you are doing. It's hard to say what other genre exactly gives RTS a run for its money. Each genre exists because it appeals to a large amount of people and it's different from every other genre. I don't think any gameplay tweaks are necessary. What's so great about RTS is there's no definite strategy to win. There's a certain style in which you must play but the decisions are solely up to you. People always come up with new strategies and if things get really unbalanced, there'll always be buffs/nerfs!

Also helps that RTS often doesn't require the same system specs that other genre's do. SC2 for example is extremely scalable.

LoL is not an RTS its Multiplayer Online Battle Arena aka MOBA. And i enjoy good strategy games. I like the trend of automatizing aspects of game u don't want to do. Distant worlds is a good exapmle.

AoE is still my all-time favorite RTS title, followed by the Westwood C&C's - EA mutilated the game... As for dying out, that will never happen. There's still a huge percentage of PC gamers who prefer RTS' to the new-age FPS or MMO games, because of the lack of intellect needed for those two genres.

my two favorite games atm are starcraft 2 and HoN. As a Korean, RTS is here to stay.

BUT. MMO are definitely picking up traction, can't wait for GWII :D

the thing with RTS games are that they're generally cheap, have nearly infinite replay value, and only get more fun as you play them more. Graphically they aren't too intensive, you get a load of gameplay, for a much lower price, so RTS are definitely going to dominate for a while.

Yeah thing is MMO's mostly cost loads more than any RTS. Thats why RTS is staying as one of the bests
