What's your game of the year?

December 1st, 2011

It's been a great year for PC gaming. Looking back, what has been your favorite game of the year?

There is certainly no shortage of front-runners: Skyrim, Minecraft (final release), Portal 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Battlefield 3. Perhaps Deus Ex is more your bread and butter. Or maybe it's a lower profile game that really grabbed you.

I'm sure I've overlooked a few more highlighted here. So which is it? When it's all said and done, what PC game will 2011 be most remembered for? Let's hear it, people.

I'm going to go with Portal 2. It had an ARG that I participated in, which drastically made the release of the game more extraordinary. That type of pre-release content is what makes the game itself even more good - resulting in many members to work together for a common goal. The other games didn't have that kind of stuff. The other games are still good though.

Elders Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Hands down for me.
As a follower of the Elder Scrolls games since Daggerfall and before, I can say that this is the best game yet.
The world is very big. There are secrets everywhere and you will find yourself stumbling upon a very wide variety of places, people, and loot.
The game has exceptional AI and voice acting.
Time goes by instantly in this game.
The game may be 16 square miles, but the cave systems and buildings has to add at least another 10. One cave I'm in now starts as a Dwemer ruin, then turns to cave, than has caves branching out from that cave, than goes down into a huge, HUGE, HUGE cavern that has a castle in it, many buildings all around, and more caves.
I could go on for hours about the soundtrack, awesome quests, and randomness that makes this game awesome but I'll spare you all the speech.

This game wins.

I'd have to go with Portal 2, i haven't played it yet, but planning on getting it over Christmas. The ratings, and friends' comments are what convince me it's the best.

I'm going with Skyrim for sure, portal 2 begin a close second.
Even though the game is broken to hell, and the new patch made things worse... I expected that to happen. Looking at the quest guides for oblivion, 90% of the quests has "This bug was fixed in some patch" as a note.

With that said, now it is time for Bethesda to get their shit together and make Skyrim an even better game.

Ladd Russo is like a father to me.

Best game of this year for me, would be L.A. Noire, and Skyrim on the second place for its sheer size and content. On the other hand if Mass Effect 3 would have been released, than I would say that, without even playing it!

Battlefield 3 for me ofc, sadly with growing up I lost ability to see game climate and playability as top value, now only graphics, details, and effects matter and BF3 is just epic for me.

Yes, Portal 2 was great. It was funny and addicting, everything you want in a game. However, that said, it has no replayability factor and it is very, very short. I beat the entire single player campaign in less than a day, and finished the co-op within the next week. That, to me, is not GOTY quality.

GOTY should be a game that will enthrall you for hours upon hours, which is exactly what Skyrim provides. Everything about Skyrim is incredible, from the endless dungeons to the role-playing possibilities to the craving of creating a new character even though you made one less than a week ago is what makes it the certain GOTY. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you haven't played Skyrim yet.

I beat the single player and the co-op within the same day.
And you're right, zero re-playability.
