How to overclock your graphics card

March 9th, 2012

The last time I overclocked my graphics card processor was on my M11X. I booted the bios, selected a higher processing speed, and bang. I was done.

That was an "official" OEM overclock, however. Easy peasy. For everything else, including graphics card overclocking, you might want to brush up on your overclocking skills with this recent guide on the subject by Computer World.

"While you can gain plenty of additional performance simply by moving a few sliders in your graphics card's driver control panels, third-party utilities such as MSI's Afterburner give users the ability to take overclocks even further by introducing voltage tweaks into the equation," the websites writes.

"Without performing any cooling modifications, however, we advise against altering your graphics card's voltages. Increasing the voltages may allow for even higher overclocks, but doing so will also drive up heat output and power consumption significantly, over and above the increases resulting from the higher frequencies alone."

Pretty straightforward stuff. But get over there for more detailed considerations if you've got the overclocking bug.

Oh, and have a great weekend, everyone.

I agree with Dan. We don't really need another over-clocking section. BlazeGhost's thread is really well wrote and structured.

I only OC after warranty expires.

I'm not quite sure how he did anything when all he said was" I booted the bios, selected a higher processing speed, and bang. I was done. "

That is somewhat how I OC my proc, albeit with a couple more steps. How I OC my card is by using an application that increases its different clocks and whatnot.
