Poll: What do you think of cloud gaming?

July 25th, 2012

Earlier this month, cloud gaming pimp David Perry ruffled some feathers when he said PC gamers would eventually abandon their rigs and fully move to the superior power of pooled gamer servers while using dummy
terminals as the point of entry. Obviously Perry has skin in the game, so of course he would say that. But what do you think:

How popular will cloud gaming be?

I think it's a cool idea. It will eventually dominate overtime as technology also improves.

I think it's okay, I prefer to have my very own computer though.

Anything worth having is worth working hard for.

I can't seem to believe this is the future. How many servers will you need to replace all the great rigs we have now? Don't you think it's a bit too much?

Through all the differences it is still perfection.

it will steadily get more popular, but will take a decade or 2 to dominate the market

I sincerely think that it'll flop. I mean, there's a massive amount of people who play PC games, and to make EVERYTHING cloud would just be too expensive. And even if it does take off, all it would take would be one hacker to pop in, and crash the server, making everyone lose something. And don't get me started on lag. I just don't think it's a viable alternative to home based games.

I think it a great idea but wouldn't we required to have an expensive internet connection?

well, instantly after the 360 got cloud coverage, my account got hacked. not certain if I trust it completely but I know it will be the future, so like it or not we all better get used to it

If your going to do something wrong, do that right!

Now, in 5 years if we all get 50MB internet... there would be not much difference in using cloud gaming

Cloud gaming can get very popular in populated areas and I think it will do well in the future (to a point) but if you live where you don't get good internet or don't want to pay for better internet that is where it falls short.

i dont think this will make it, nor do i think it should dominate anything, its a good idea for people who arent able to get good rigs (because lets remember, not everyone can afford an alienware laptop/desktop)so not everyone can play all the games they want, but if the processing power is through a differant means that doesnt depend on the person playing, then the person can play what they want. that is a good idea, but i would never do it, i like having MY own games on MY own LOCAL computer, and "nothing" will change that. And what happens when im on a plane ride to somewhere and i want to entertain myself... id be screwed because i would have to go online, now there are plane companys that have internet on thier planes... for first class, im not flying first class to anywhere haha. anyway, so what would i do if i didnt have an internet connection? Plus, if this happened, then being a gamer would cost moeny, not buying the game, not buying internet, but something like this isnt free, it would be a subscription based thing, im not going to pay just to play games that ive already bought! Imagine every single gamer in the world all running off of the same place, you know how powerful the servers would have to be? Im sorry i just dont see this effectivly happening...

It would be nice to save the 2k on a gaming rig. We will just have to see how this developes.

I like it but you'll need fast internet and a lot or unlimited bandwidth. Some people have limited bandwidth so that's a downside until all ISPs decide to stop capping.

The idea is cool but we will need to wait a long time to see it and compare with a normal rig, also i like to have my computer with me! and use it!

I don't like this idea. What happens when the company feels that a game is costing more to keep on their servers than it is making. I prefer having my games with a hard copy or at least a stored digital copy.

It is already happen and will be commonplace in the future, but hopefully most games will allow you to have both local saves and cloud saves.

Doubt it will be the biggest thing 5 years from now, but 10 years it can easily be in literally every single game.

All the F2P games already store the information on their servers.

Give it 10+ years and hopefully bandwidth prices go down, then I can see it as a viable alternative to the traditional gaming system. Good for those on a budget, but won't take over gaming rigs until much later when technology goes completely software.

I don't like the idea because, what's when you have a bad internet connection or you're changing your provider? You have all times to be connected with the internet, when you want to play something. I want to have my games on my pc.

I use cloud web services at work and I'll tell you honestly, I'm not giving up my rig anytime soon. I mean, we can still use our computers, even if it comes to having to use the Cloud for gaming.

It's certainly a very appealing concept for the many with underpowered rigs, but I enjoy hardware far too much to ever give up my machine.
