When did you become a gamer?

September 12th, 2012

Video games have been commercially available since 1972, an even forty years. So, when did you join the party?

Anti-console folks won't be pleased, but video game eras are classified according to console generations. So even though you may have never played a console, the generation you started in matters. (Kind of like how even though you may be non-Christian, you still abide by the man's death when referring to a calendar year).

By that logic, I become a gamer during the second-generation (think Atari 2600) before really ramping up my play time during the third-generation (think NES and IBM PC jr, my first "rig").

So what about you: What year and generation did you start playing games? And while were on the subject, which gaming generation are you most fond of?

When I started playing World of Warcraft back in 2004/2005. Never thought gaming could be so good. But my first games were during the Windows 95 and N64 days.

Started with a Gameboy SP game called Hamtaro. That lead to Pokemon, then to GameCube. Sonic adventure 2 battle was what really got me into gaming regardless of it being on a console. It was a good 4 years after getting a Wii that I decided PC gaming was for me.
