Alienware acknowledges set top gaming PCs, won't say if they're making one though

I asked several E3 attendees last month what kind of PC gaming system they'd like to see in the near future. Surprisingly, many expressed interest in TV-ready rigs. You know, a sleek, easy to use box like this (only more powerful) that plays just as nice with your HDTV as it does your monitor.

In other words, PC gaming in the living room. Or console without the “console” (you know, those Apple-like closed machines with more expensive games.) So is this something Alienware, the largest manufacturer of gamer-specific PCs, even have on their radar?

“Obviously we can’t go into details surrounding potential future product,” says Bryan de Zayas, product manager at Alienware. “But I can assure you that Alienware is constantly looking into new concepts all the time and asking ourselves if this the right time to pursue specific form factors...” such as set top PCs.

Zayas remarks come two weeks after Activision CEO Bobby Kottick called for “new gamer-friendly PCs designed to be plugged into televisions.” Activision, in case you didn’t know, is the world’s largest independent video game publisher.
