Battlefield 3 making PC the lead platform again
July 27th, 2011

After being the lead development platform for decades, something strange happened to the PC five years ago. In a reversal of roles, multi-system games began being ported from lower-powered HD consoles to PC.
Consquently, compromises in size, number of players, and graphics were made on PC versions. This is largely because consoles enjoyed better sales at the time, and thereby became the priority.
Today, however, it seems the PC is reclaiming its posistion as the lead development platform. At least that's the case with the highly anticipated Battlefield 3, which is being optimized on PC, and then scaled down for consoles, like it was before.
(To wit, PC will support 64-person multiplayer and larger maps, compared to 24-person on consoles and smaller maps.)
Not only that, but things are expected to stay that way moving forward, especially as console cycles become a thing of the past. In other words, big wheels keep on turning.
Battlefield 3 arrives Oct. 25 on PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.

It is good to see the PC version having larger maps and larger amounts of people in multiplayer because it rewards the PC gamer. PC has always been and will always be the best platform for gaming just because they are not limited like the console is. Consoles get upgraded every 5+ years while PC are available to be upgraded in a few months to a year even with top of the line components.

srry but the last sentence started to confuse me for a bit. however, i think that fps games once worked for pc & was very popular back then but ever since consoles like xbox and ps3 came out, those consoles were pretty popular yet pc felt left out. i believe fps games like bf3 deserve to become the leading platform. :)

For example. I just recently got a new computer. Nothing special, but it cost upwards of $800. A PS3 or eXBawkz costs a lot less, and the games that are released on it are made for the system (or adapted to it), not the other way around. I don't have to upgrade my console's graphics card (do they even have those?) every time the newest hit shooter comes out.
Perhaps I'm biased because I grew up on consoles, and the first shooter I ever got into on the PC was AVA. The game feels more at home with a joystick and aim assist than it does with a mouse and keyboard. I also don't give a rat's ass about graphical quality. I usually play games on the lowest setting just so they run the fastest. If the gameplay is good, the graphics can give me seizures for all I care.
Dunno, feel like ranting. I'm a consoler, always have been, always will be. I understand that people that play games on PC will like them more, but as I said before, why the console hate?
Also, this. ^
PS: I have BF3 reserved for eXBawkz, since my PS3 yellow lighted on me. D:
