Big games coming to PC this summer

Summertime is known more for the great outdoors than it is video games. But a surprising number of promising PC titles might keep you indoors more than you had originally anticipated. 

Here’s what’s on my radar from June through August:

Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Aug 23) 
The third installment of the RPG / first-person shooter by Eidos. Although the second game was a let down, the first game was a revelation, so there’s a 50/50 chance this will be good. 

Red Faction: Armageddon (Jun 7) 
If you played its predecessor, Red Faction: Guerrilla, you already know how explosively good the gameplay is. If not, you do now. Keep an eye on this one. 

Call of Juarez: The Cartel (Jun 28)
Set in modern-day Mexico, Call of Juarez: The Cartel is a Western-theme shooter similar to Red Dead Redemption. The first two games were well-received, so it seems the third is another you can hang your 10 gallon hat on. 

Magic: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 (Jun 15)
I’ll let you in on a little secret: the first Magic game, released for PC last year, is straight up awesome. It’s been a cult favorite and budget-concious download ever since. If you like strategy, you’ll love this, even if you’ve never played the nerdy card game. 

Alice: Madness Returns (Jun 14) 
The Wonderland you knew from your childhood has gone horribly wrong ... again. The original was a dark and twisted platformer. Oh, and it was a lot of fun. Not sure where the new one might take us, but it’s worth following.
