Did you see this? The evolution of PC games

July 30th, 2012

Earlier this month, Polygon commissioned this short but sweet evolution of PC games video. The description reads, "From the earliest text-based adventures to the latest modern shooters, Reverse Enginears has created a stunning musical composition featuring only sounds and music from PC games."

There are a handful of notable exclusions; I didn't spot Battlefield 3 or League of Legends. But overall, it's a clever retracing of PC gaming's past. For a full list of included games, click here.

Games have advanced almost as fast as technology. Unfortunately, games have become lackluster in story and short in gameplay.

This video made me miss games from the mid to late 90's and early 00's. I was a little surprised not to see Painkiller, Quake, or Unreal Tournament there though.

Anything worth having is worth working hard for.

Woot for the HL franchise haha. I've seen this a while back and a possible reason for BF3 and LoL's exclusion is that they weren't classic titles in the 90's. Then again, they did miss a lot...
