Are first-person games more immersive than others?

BioShock creator and influential designer Ken Levine thinks first-person graphics are the most immersive way of gaming, saying they create "one less barrier" to the gaming experience.

"I think it's the most direct way to engage," Levine told Industry Gamers, suggesting first-person cameras are more than just the go-to perspective for shooters. "It's a strange thing to be in someone else's shoes."

Of course, Levine didn't say the first-person perspective is the only way to immerse oneself, but he did offer that it does a good job at letting gamers "break through" for a powerful experience.

I find that for me any game that is either first-person or like an RPG where I create my own character or at least customize them a little is immersive enough

yes, they are much more immersive, because you are put in your character's shoes, and you play as him. So yes, FPS for the win =)

FPS are more immersive probably due to the fact that it's a little more realistic. You view the world through the eyes of the protagonist. It's hard to make a game more immersive if you just constantly just look at your character's back.

Not just immerse.also they have a higher chance of surprising you,and if the game was third person you can see around yourself more clearly.

In my part I must agree too, most of my bought games on Steam
are first-person shooters. But then again, there are other games
that can really pump me up without FPS features.

P.S Regarding "Senronx"'s comment, the game's website that he
provided is a great game and they have some free to download mods
of it to experience, I recommend "BULLSEYE".

I say it would have to be the graphics and the story from the view of your character.

When playing an FPS vs an RPG in an FPS you are pretending to shoot and kill thing so story required. When playing an RPG there is a huge back story and it seems more like you are living another life in the virtual world. The time investment is also much higher in RPGs and for more casual gamers this is a deal breaker.

You get in the Zone more often with FPSs because there are more moments of intense concentration than in RPGs.

I think that RTS games are very immersive as well, but I do get the point. FPS games have come a long way.
