Have you played these notable PC games this year?

GameSpot reader Terror Rizzing has compiled a great thread of "notable PC games" already released this year, including critically-acclaimed multiplatform titles. "There not all exclusive but notable on PC," he says after adding, "Too many threads about console only games are getting on my nerves."

Excluding many of the obvious picks such as World of Wacraft, Bioshock 2, and lesser-known indie games, many of which are covered here, here's an incomplete list of over 50 notable PC games you might want to play:

  • Napoleon: Total War - Turn-based strategy done right
  • Mass Effect 2 - Massive RPG you can replay again and again
  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat - The road-less traveled shooter
  • Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising - Real-time strategy, baby
  • Metro 2033 - Solid shooter with mind-numbing graphics
  • Mount & Blade Warband - Solid little action RPG.
  • Dragon Age: Awakening - The latest in a rad RPG series
  • Bad Company 2 - A lot better than Modern Warfare 2.
  • Just Cause 2 - Quality GTA knock off
  • Lord of Ultima - One awesome web game
  • The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom - Very good city builder
  • Assassin's Creed 2 - Great action adventure game
  • Eschalon: Book II - Amazing old-school RPG
  • Numen: Contest of Heroes - Decent hack & slash RPG
  • Darksiders - Good hack & slash zelda knock-off
  • Splinter Cell Conviction - Great action/adventure game (better than Metal Gear Solid)
  • Grand Theft Auto IV: Episodes from Liberty City - Nice compilation of an awesome sandbox game
  • Divinity II: Ego Draconis - Solid RPG
  • The Passing - Free Left 4 Dead expansion
  • Heroes of Newerth - Fantasy action RPG
  • Blur - Mario kart knock off with realistic graphics
  • Split/Second - "Explosive" racing game
  • Tropico 3 - Worthy simulation game
  • Sims 3: Ambitions - Great expansion
  • Alien Breed Impact - Great little old school co-op shooter
  • Need for Speed: World - mmo racing game
  • Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit - Racing game of the year?
  • Alpha Protocol - Love it or hate it.
  • Runaway: A Twist of Fate - Nice little adventure game
  • Singularity - Solid first-person shooter
  • Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands - Another good action adventure game. 
  • Lego Harry Potter - Lego fun.
  • And MORE!

Clearly the PC is lacking quality games to play. Clearly.

By the way, if you're not already one of the 2 million people to have downloaded it elsewhere, buy Flight Control HD for PC. It's incredibly addictive. Not to mention only $5.

And yes, in my opinion Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is the game of the year,
in a long time I havnt played a game that was near to the new NFS, except
Split/Second who was getting quite close.
Splinter Cell is an awesome game for online co-op, darksiders is also great.
And ofcourse Bad Company 2.

I'll check some games on the list too, thanks!

Dang, I've played quite a few of those. I must say, they were awesome. Especially Mount & Blade: Warband and Metro 2033.

Played quite of those, especially the FPS games definitely agree about Hot Pursuit being the Racing game of the year, lots of fun..

I'm a little surprised Starcraft 2 isn't on that list, but aside from that many of the games that are on the list were a lot of fun to play such as Split/Second, HoN, BC2, ME2, GTA4 and many more.

Out of the games listed, I want to buy and play Mass Effect 2. I downloaded a demonstration for it, at first I wasn't sure about the game because I was used to playing, but hadn't played a traditional role playing game from a console or a console itself; and I'm not good with keyboard and mouse controls. But after getting hang of the game I developed a liking it for it. I might actually buy One and Two and play them when I'm not playing an MMO or any online genre for that matter. Next on my list would have to be Dragon Age and or anything that is RPG (not holding my breath for a Fable III PC release) for the PC, would be a plus if it had gamepad implementation to it too.

i've tried W40k but i was disappointed that on the campaign mode you are limited to Space Marines only. I really wanted to play Dark Eldar but... its just another mediocre RTS.

NFS Hot Pursuit really is a fun game! That being said, I too have played quite a few of these games. Definitely some more on the list I would like to play that's for sure. Slowly but surely...making my way through the list haha.

Oh and Blur has got to be the most underrated game of the year. It's unfortunate but it really is a solid game. I hear there won't be a sequel or anything. Such a shame.
