Sponsor break: Holy crap, that's a cheap gaming laptop!

March 31st, 2011

And by cheap I mean a steal. The lovable, 4.5 star-rated, and NeoGAF-approved M11x by Alienware is now at its lowest price ever: $599.

Base specs:

  • 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M Graphics
  • Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
  • 2GB RAM/160GB Storage (upgrades starting at $60)
  • HDMI out (yeah, baby!)
  • Up to 7.5 hours of battery life

Of course, you can trick out the little booger to well over $1300, a la Alienware's other 4.5 star-rated notebooks and 4.5 star-rated desktops.

But honestly, even the base model is more than capable of playing your favorite and most popular PC games. I know because I own one. And not because Alienware made me. Because it's a machine and deal worth promoting. Check my past if you don't believe me.

On that note, what are you playing on these days?

I've been playing League of Legends and Portal, both of which run great on my M15x. This is a good machine, although it's had it's share of problems, however it's far less portable than I had assumed (it's huge).

Do you only game on your M11x or do you also have a desktop?

I only game on my m11x since i went to college. I can say it is a very student friendly, and that is why i bought it in the first place. Very portable and quite powerfull to. I play games like dirt 2, portal(waiting on portal 2 :D), grid, mw2 and mw css and most recently napoleon total war.

A lot of people confuse laptops with gaming laptops.
A gaming laptop is meant to have very high performance and be easy to carry from point A to point B(wich usually should be a lan party :) ) then plug it in and play. It was never ment to charge your battery and go out and use it.

When normal laptops usually have a very low end video card and a decent procesor to allow you to use it on the battery to do your office stuff, and it was never meant for gaming.

The m11x is somewhere between. And for me beeing limited by space since i share the room, it was the only solution that i could think of to be able to play and still have a very portable laptop(in my opinion) to be able to go out and do my school work on it.

On weekend we usually do workshops, and while i go with my laptop i can stay with no problems for like 4h on it and code while the rest need to bring extension cords so they don't run out of battery, and the funny thing is, mine still hass better performance in games then theirs and battery life to. so it is a win win for me :P

I just bought mine had it almost a month and I can play eve online black ops homefront was playable but the game was badly buged mafia 2 plays its not lightning fast but for 599.99 its well worth the money you have to tweak it a little bit when you get it like turn the intel gpu off and only have nvida running update the gpu firmware and overclock it when you do that you will be able to run black ops at 60-70 fps witch is more then enough
