Steamy living room: What do you think of Big Picture?

September 17th, 2012

Valve last week released Big Picture, a controller powered living room mode for all your PC games and Steam friends. A lean back experience to compliment the lean forward one all of us know and love.

Currently a work in progress, the free mode also boasts a "first person" browser, keyboard and mouse support, and Daisywheel, Big Picture’s new controller UI for typing.

So what do you think of the new mode? Something you think you'll use a lot, or something you'd only marginally use (or never)? Let's hear it!

I'm actually excited for this. It looks pretty awesome and a nice addition to what Steam already is.

I believe this is definitely a huge step for Steam. It won't be long until they release a better browser or even a unique controller for Big Picture and something tells me voice command won't be to far along the road!
I'm pretty sure I'll use it frequently if it provides quick services and commands.

I've been using it on and off, and it's a whole lot of fun! None of my controllers work with it, though, so I haven't had the chance to test out the controller-based browser features, but beyond that, it's pretty great!

It is great for people who use this, but I personally I don't game in the living room.

Can't wait to see this feature being rolled out. It looks awesome, might tempt me to start using my TV a bit more. xD

It's cool but I don't have a console unfortunately so it's not that useful to me.

I'm thinking of assembling a pc and connect it only on the tv just like a console so when I'm home I use the tv and when I'm around or I have to use internet I use my notebook. Well played Valve, well played.
