Top 5 remaining PC games to play this spring

Spring has been kind to PC gamers so far this year. There's been Bad Company 2, Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City, and "better than the original" Just Cause 2. And let's not forget about Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2 released earlier in the year.

But if you're still looking for something new, a lot of fresh games are just around the corner. So before we enter the summer doldrums of June, July, and August, behold the most-promising remaining games of Spring 2010 for your PC:

Splinter Cell: Conviction
Release date: April 27



Why you should care: If the PC version is anything like the Xbox 360 version released earlier this month, gamers are in for some skilled stealth action. And not that slow kind of stealth. The new Sam Fisher is quick and more deadlier, if that's even a word. While charting better than 2005's Chaos Theory in early ratings, Conviction could end up being the most critically acclaimed installment of the series to date. Giddy up.


Lost Planet 2
Release date: May 11



Why you should care: The original Lost Planet meets Left 4 Dead. New weapons. New rides. Four player co-op. If you prefer more strategy in your shooters, but still like to play with friends, plot this on your sci-fi radar.


Split/Second
Release date: May 18



Why you should care: Ever wanted to drive in a Hollywood car chase filled with explosions? Well you may finally get your chance with Split Second, which rewards good driving with the ability to trigger explosions, structural collapses, and hidden shortcuts. Made by Black Rock Studios—who know a thing or two about racing games—this could be the next Burnout. (See also this Spring: Blur, Need for Speed: World)


Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter
Release date: April 28



Why you should care: Because it looks awesome. And it's Serious Sam. And replaying an awesome shooter in high definition is better than playing a mediocre shooter for the first time. Admittedly, the First Encounter remake was a pretty frickin' hard, if not repetitive at times. But did I mention this is Serious Sam we're talking here?


Batman: Arkham Asylum (Game of the Year Edition)
Release date: May 11



Why you should care: In case you failed to play the original—the best action game of 2009—might I interest you in this new bundle? The game can be played in its original form, and comes bundled with all the downloadable content. What's more, there's even a new 3D mode (glasses included) if you really want to be trippy about it. Enjoy!
