It's rare for a video game to stay in the top 10 chart for an entire year. Which makes what Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has done over the last 10 months -- i.e. staying in the top 10 bestselling list -- all the more impressive.
What is it about this game that makes it so sticky and longer-lasting than either Modern Warfare 2 or Call of Duty: Black Ops? It's definitely not the short campaign. So what it is?
I'll tell you. For starters, Bad Company 2's maps actually feel like battlefields instead of paintball-like shooting arenas. That's a big plus over contemporary shooters.
Secondly, the weapons, including vehicles, in Bad Company 2 (and how they react with and disrupt just about anything in-game) make for a more diverse, balanced, and explosive experience when compared to Call of Duty.
But most of all, playing Bad Company 2 is all about teamwork. Much like another popular PC shooter with impressive staying power: Counter-Strike.
This isn't to say Bad Company 2 is that sticky. But it's been fun to watch Bad Company 2 do so well over the last year. It's proof that if developers make a really balanced and distinct game, they'll be rewarded for it.
