Official Rules
Welcome to the Alienware Arena QUAKE LIVE PC Gaming Season Open. These rules ("Official Rules") set forth the rules and regulations of the Alienware Arena QUAKE LIVE PC Gaming Season Open (the "Tournament") presented by Alienware, Corp. ("Alienware") and iGames, Inc. ("iGames"). Alienware and iGames are, collectively, the "Sponsors."
Please read these Official Rules carefully before submitting an entry or participating in the Tournament. These Official Rules contain important information about eligibility to enter the Tournament, the rules of the Tournament and other important information. Please note that the rules for playing the game in the Tournament are contained in the "Game Play Rules" located at http://www.alienwarearena.com/event/ql-pcgs-09/. The Game Play Rules are incorporated herein by this reference.
By registering for the Tournament, you accept these Official Rules and agree to be bound by their terms. If you do not agree with these Official Rules, please do not register for the Tournament.
- Eligibility. The Tournament is open only to residents of any state of the United States of America, the District of Columbia and any Province of Canada (other than Quebec) that are 13 years of age or older as of June 27, 2009, and who properly register for the Tournament (each a "Player"). Each Player may be required to show proof of age, residence and, if such Player is under the legal age of majority in his or her state of residence, consent to these Official Rules by his/her parent or legal guardian. IF YOU DO NOT SATISFY THESE REQUIREMENTS, YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO REGISTER AND/OR PARTICIPATE IN THE TOURNAMENT. Participation in the Tournament is also subject to compliance with the requirements specified below and in the Game Play Rules (located at http://www.alienwarearena.com/event/ql-pcgs-09/). Employees of Sponsors and their immediate families (parent, child, sibling and the spouses of each) are not eligible to register for the Tournament. The Tournament is void where prohibited by applicable law.
- Sponsors. The Tournament is sponsored by Alienware, Corp., located at 14591 SW 120 Street, Miami, FL 22186 and iGames, Inc., located at 201 San Antonio Circle, Suite 260, Mountain View, CA 94040.
- Tournament Period. The Tournament shall commence on June 27, 2009 at 11:30 AM Eastern Time and end on June 27, 2009 at 10:00 PM Eastern Time (the "Tournament Period").
- How to Enter the Tournament. Each Player must register for the Tournament on the event site at http://www.alienwarearena.com/event/ql-pcgs-09/ by creating a personal user account and selecting the Join Event link.
- Registration & Fees. There is no fee to register for the Tournament. Players will be guaranteed a Tournament slot first come, first served for their applicable Tournament Conference (as defined in the Game Play Rules).
- Tournament Play. The Game Play Rules, located at http://www.alienwarearena.com/event/ql-pcgs-09/, specify the rules of play for the Tournament. As specified in the Game Play Rules, the Tournament will consist of game play among up to 128 Players in Single-Elimination brackets.
- Prizes. The top two eligible Players (the "Winning Players") in each of the four Conferences (as defined in the Game Play Rules) will be awarded the prizes specified below (each a "Prize"). Relative placement among the Winning Players will be determined based on the Game Play Rules (located at http://www.alienwarearena.com/event/ql-pcgs-09/).
- All Prizes will be awarded.
- If a Winning Player forfeits or is disqualified for any reason, the Player is not eligible to receive their Prize.
- Up to 128 Players will compete in the Tournament; up to 32 Players per Conference.
- THERE IS NO ENTRY FEE TO COMPETE FOR PRIZES.
- No Prize substitution, except as allowed by Sponsors which reserve the right to offer a Prize of equal/greater value.
Total ARV of all Prizes is $2,500.00 USD.Tournament Prizes in US Dollars Placement Among Winning Players In each of the four Conferences: $500 1st $125 2nd - Winners' Affidavit of Eligibility and Release, Etc. Each Winning Player will be required to execute and deliver to iGames a signed Affidavit of Eligibility and Release (the "Affidavit/Release"). In the Affidavit of Eligibility and Release, each Winning Player will (a) confirm his/her eligibility and agreement to these Official Rules, (b) to the extent permitted by applicable law, consent to use of his/her name and likeness, and (c) release Sponsors from liability in connection with the use of the Prizes. If required by law, each Winning Player also will be required to execute Federal and State tax releases. iGames will provide the Winning Players with the Affidavit/Release and any required tax releases at the conclusion of the Tournament Period. Should a Winning Player not receive such documents the Winning Player may send a request to iGames at events@igames.org. Each Winner must provide their Affidavit/Release and (if applicable) the tax releases to iGames within 14 days of the last day of the Tournament Period, or the associated Prize may be forfeited. Each Winner will be shipped their Prize within 3 weeks from the day iGames receives from such Winning Player the completed Affidavit/Release and any required tax releases. Prizes will be issued and mailed to the name and address indicated on the Affidavit/Release.
- If a Winner is under the legal age of majority in his or her state of residence, the Winning Player's parent or legal guardian must also sign the Affidavit/Release as well as comply with all other requirements imposed on Winning Players set forth herein.
- Sales tax (if any) and income tax are the sole responsibility of each Winning Player.
- Each Winning Player, by entering the Tournament, consents to the inclusion of his or her name on a list of Winners made available by Sponsors as indicated below.
- Sponsors will pay the costs of delivery of each Prize.
- Use of Information. Each Player consents to use of his or her name, information and image by Sponsors, their respective agents and assignees for display and publishing in any media, now known or hereafter developed, without compensation, in any and all advertising and promotional materials relating to the Tournament, and in conjunction with other promotions that may be offered by Sponsors. The information collected to enter the Tournament will be used to contact each Winning Player. Additionally, each Player agrees that Sponsors and their agents and assignees may use this information for marketing purposes and to contact Players regarding offers, promotions and other contests related to products or services distributed by Sponsors. In addition, any such information also may be used and disclosed as set forth in the Alienware Arena privacy policy located at http://www.alienwarearena.com/legal/privacy/.
- General Release. Sponsors and each of their respective parents, affiliates, subsidiaries and advertising and promotion agencies, and all of their respective officers, directors, agents and employees (collectively, "Released Parties") will not be responsible for: (a) technical failures of any kind, including, but not limited to telephone, electronic, hardware, software, network, Internet, or any other computer and communications related malfunctions or failures; (b) any Tournament disruptions, injuries, losses or damages caused by events beyond the control of Sponsors; or (c) any technical or human error such as typographical, printing, or administrative errors in any materials associated with the Tournament; or (d) the use of any Prize.
- Other Terms.
- To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Tournament and these Official Rules will be governed, construed and interpreted under the laws of the state of California, USA.
- These Official Rules are subject to any requirements/limitations imposed by the Federal Communications Commission.
- The Tournament is subject to applicable Federal, state provincial and local laws and regulations.
- Players agree to be bound by these Official Rules and by the decisions of the Sponsors, which are final and binding in all respects.
- Sponsors reserve the right to cancel, suspend and/or modify the Tournament, or any part of it, if any fraud, technical failures or any other factor beyond Sponsors�� reasonable control affect the administration, security or proper play of the Tournament or Sponsors otherwise become (as determined in their sole discretion) incapable of running the Tournament as planned. Sponsors reserve the right in their sole discretion to disqualify any individual found to be tampering with the registration process or the operation of the Tournament or to be acting in violation of these Official Rules or any other promotion, or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner.
- Sponsors�� failure to enforce any term of these Official Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision.
- Winners List; Rules Request. A Winners list will be available at http://www.alienwarearena.com/event/ql-pcgs-09/ after approximately June 30, 2009 and posted until approximately July 15, 2009. Game Play Rules
Welcome to the Alienware Arena QUAKE LIVE PC Gaming Season Open. These rules (these "Game Play Rules") set forth the rules of game play for the Alienware Arena QUAKE LIVE PC Gaming Season Open (the "Tournament") presented by Alienware, Corp. ("Alienware") and iGames, Inc. ("iGames"). Alienware and iGames are, collectively, the "Sponsors." These Game Play Rules are part of the Official Rules located at http://www.alienwarearena.com/event/ql-pcgs-09/ and are incorporated therein. Please read the Game Play Rules carefully before submitting an entry or participating in the Tournament as these Game Play Rules contain important information about the rules and format of the Tournament.
- Definitions.
- 1.1.Disputes - A controversy and/or difference of opinion over which Players disagree or debate and present to an Official for a decision.
- 1.2.Disqualification - The removal of a Player from the Tournament by an Official for violation of either the Official Rules or these Game Play Rules.
- 1.3.Forfeit - Surrendering Points or Matches (as applicable) to the opposition, either voluntarily or by the ruling of an Official due to Player violation of the Official Rules or Game Play Rules.
- 1.4.Map - One QUAKE LIVE 10 minute session of play in a virtual environment.
- 1.5.Handle - a Player pseudonym used for identification of Players during the Tournament.
- 1.6.Lag Out - When a Player is disconnected from the Server due to network connectivity issues.
- 1.7.Live - An active game play session where the outcome counts towards to the Tournament results.
- 1.8.Match - One QUAKE LIVE map consisting of up to three Maps, best of three, ending when one Player wins two Maps.
- 1.9.Official - The designated individual(s) presiding over the Tournament and responsible for enforcing the Official Rules and these Game Play Rules.
- 1.10.Penalty - A punishment enforced by an Official to a Player for a violation of the Official Rules or Game Play Rules.
- 1.11.Player - Any participant who meets the eligibility requirements and properly registers for the Tournament (as outlined in the Official Rules).
- 1.12.Point - A unit of Player performance that is tracked automatically in the game. Within a Map, a Point is awarded for each frag and a Point is deducted for each suicide.
- 1.13.Server - Any dedicated game server used for a Tournament Match.
- 1.14.Warning - A verbal or written indication from an Official to a Player that continued or subsequent actions could result in a Penalty.
- 1.15.Winner - A Player that finishes the Tournament with placement (as described in the Official Rules located at http://www.alienwarearena.com/event/ql-pcgs-09/) which makes the Player eligible for a Prize.
- Tournament Match Structure.
The Tournament will consist of online Single-Elimination (as defined below) play on Saturday, June 27 with the game QUAKE LIVE. Players will be sorted into four "Conferences": the "Northeastern Conference," "Southern Conference," "Midwestern Conference" and "Western Conference" based on their region. The Tournament will end when only 1 Player remains undefeated in each Conference.
Each Player will be scheduled to play a minimum of 1 Match and up to 45 Matches, dependent upon the total number of registered Players and how many consecutive Matches a Player wins. A maximum of 128 total Players (32 per Conference) will be accepted in the Tournament. - How to Win the Tournament.
The Tournament format will be Single-Elimination ("Single-Elimination"), with Players randomly placed into brackets to play Matches against the other Players. Upon losing a Match, a Player is eliminated from the Tournament. The Match winning Player advances in the brackets to compete in another Match. The process of elimination and advancement continues until only one Player remains undefeated in each Conference. - Match Scheduling.
- 4.1. Conferences: Up to 128 Players will be accepted in the Tournament; 32 Players for each the Northeastern Conference, Southern Conference, Midwestern Conference, and Western Conference.
Players must register to compete in a Conference that suits their geographical location for optimal play. The Server locations for each respective Conference are as follows:
- Northeastern Conference: New York, Virginia
- Southern Conference: Texas, Georgia
- Midwestern Conference: Illinois, Ontario (Toronto)/li>
- Western Conference: Washington, California
For example, a Player residing in Utah is nearest to California and would therefore register to compete in the Western Conference.
The Schedule varies by Conference. See section 4.2. - 4.2. Schedule: The schedule is posted in full on the brackets located at http://www.alienwarearena.com/event/ql-pcgs-09/ . Times vary by Conference. If a Player cannot play at all potential Match times they should not enter the Tournament. All Players should expect that eatch Match will take upwards of 20-40 minutes each.
Match times are subject to change by an Official.
Matches will begin on Saturday, June 27 at the following times for each respective Conference -
Players must check-in with a Tournament Official by going to #alienwarearena on IRC.GameSurge.Net using IRC or http://www.alienwarearena.com/irc between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM for their respective Conference’s time zone:
- Northeastern Conference: Eastern Time
- Southern Conference: Eastern Time
- Midwestern Conference: Central Time
- Western Conference: Pacific
- Northeastern Conference at 1:00 PM Eastern Time
- Southern Conference at 1:00 PM Eastern Time
- Midwestern Conference at 1:00 PM Central Time
- Western Conference at 1:00 PM Pacific Time
Matches will begin at every 30 minute interval, as Servers become available and as long as the preceding Matches in the brackets are completed. Matches will proceed ahead of schedule if Players are available.
It is likely that the final Match in each Conference will not end until approximately 7:00 PM or later for the respective Conference's time zone. - 4.3. Match Start Time: If preceding Matches are complete, Players must be available by the Match times specified in the brackets. Forcing other Players to wait is disrespectful and unsportsmanlike and thereby is subject to enforcement of a Penalty by the Official, up to and including a Match Forfeit for delays that exceed 15 minutes.
- 4.4. Match Delays: A Match may be delayed from starting only if preceding Matches in the bracket are incomplete, or if a Player is encountering technical difficulties specific to usage of the Match Network Client and is in contact with an Official to have their issue resolved. Under no other under circumstances will a Match delay be accepted, including but not limited to emergencies, power outages, Internet instability, etc.
- 4.1. Conferences: Up to 128 Players will be accepted in the Tournament; 32 Players for each the Northeastern Conference, Southern Conference, Midwestern Conference, and Western Conference.
- Player Handles. Handles may not contain profanity, racism, sexism, references to illegal drugs, or general vulgarity. Players found with offensive Handles will be contacted by an Official and asked to edit their Handle to something more appropriate.
- Sportsmanship. All Players will be required to uphold and observe a universal level of sportsmanship. Unsportsmanlike conduct includes, but is not limited to, racism, use of profanity, rude acts, vulgar acts, acts of belligerence, and disrespect of an Official.
Unsportsmanlike conduct may be Disputed and may be grounds for Player Disqualification by an Official. Rulings on unsportsmanlike actions are subject to the Official��s interpretation and assessment of seriousness. If a Player is found in violation of this rule the following actions may happen:
- Minor infractions as judged by an Official: Warning
- Severe infractions or repeat minor infractions as judged by an Official: Disqualification Any accusations of unsportsmanlike conduct by a Player or must be brought to the attention of the Official by filing a dispute following the Match in which the alleged action has occurred for investigation by a presiding Official.- Time Limit: 10 minutes (per Map)
- Frag Limit: None / Unlimited
- Weapon Respawn Time: Default
- Health/Armor Respawn Time: Default
7. QUAKE LIVE Accounts. All Players are required to have a valid QUAKE LIVE account when they register. QUAKE LIVE accounts associated with a Player cannot be changed once registration is full or closed.
It is the responsibility of both Players to verify that the correct accounts are in use prior to beginning a Match. Once a Match has begun, a Player may not Dispute the use of an incorrect QUAKE LIVE account.
8. Server Information and Requirements
8.1. Servers: Private Servers will be assigned by Officials. If necessary and available, Officials may instruct Players to utilize Public Servers.
8.1.1. Server Locations: Generally, Matches will be played on the following Servers for each Conference:
Northeastern Conference: New York, Virginia
Southern Conference: Texas, Georgia
Midwestern Conference: Illinois, Ontario (Toronto)
Western Conference: Washington, California
To reduce ping advantages, Servers outside the specific Conference may be assigned at Officials sole discretion.
8.1.2. Ping Imbalance: The difference between each Player��s average ping in a Server must be no greater than 25 milliseconds. If a Player is registered in a Conference that is not suitable for their geographical location, this requirement will not remain (for example, a player in Oregon registered for the Southern Conference).
The average ping must be confirmed by logging into the agreed upon Server and not through 3rd party tools. Any Player that is found to be manipulating their system to artificially make the ping appear higher may be immediately Disqualified from the Tournament at the discretion of an Official.
If only one Server location meets this ping imbalance rule, that Server location must be used for all Maps. If multiple Server locations meet the ping imbalance rule, A Player may request that one of the first two Maps be played on their preferred Server location of these available Servers. In the case of a 3rd Map being necessary in the best-of-three Match, play will occur on the Server with the least difference in ping.
If no Server locations meet this ping imbalance rule for a particular Match, Officials will make a determination to select the most fair Server location or set of two Server locations. Players agree to be bound by this determination.
8.2. Server Crashes: If a Server unintentionally crashes or is restarted while a Match is Live, all Points and time elapsed up to then will still count towards the final outcome. When Players reconnect, they must play out only the remaining time of that Map.
This rule will continue to stand in the event of a second Server crash or restart. If the same Server crashes a third time, it may no longer be used for the Match at which point Players should contact an Official for assistance.
9. Match Network Client. The "Match Network Client" is a client application that communicates with the Tournament database to verify Players, establish contact between opposing Players, and ensure fair play. All Players must download, install, and utilize the Match Network Client to participate in the Tournament. Players must be actively logged in and readied up in the Match Network Client for the complete duration of all Matches.
The Match Network Client is available for download after June 24 at http://www.alienwarearena.com/event/ql-pcgs-09/ .
All Players are advised to download the Match Network Client prior to start of the Tournament to ensure it is working properly. If you experience technical difficulties with the Match Network Client please contact support for assistance. If a Player is unable to utilize the Match Network Client despite the best efforts of an Official, then that Player will not be eligible to participate in the Tournament.
10. First Person Demos (Recordings). All Players are required to create first person demos (recordings) of all Matches using the in-game recording feature. All Players are required to keep all first person demos for the duration of the Tournament.
To record a demo, Players must first join a game then press alt+ctrl+~ on their keyboard to bring up the command console. To start the recording, Players type in the console: /record demonamehere
Demos are stored in the local user directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\id Software\quakelive\home\baseq3\demos
If a Player cannot provide a requested first person demo at the request of an Official, then the Match in question may be overturned.
11. Game Environment Requirements. The game environment consists of any and all files used to control or play the game.
11.1. Client Commands: All console commands are permitted, except for any that constitute exploits of the game mechanics (as solely determined by a Tournament Official).
11.2. Configuration Files: Players are permitted to edit their user configuration files in the native game directory and through the command console. Players are not allowed to have any other configuration files inside the native game directory.
11.3. Outside Applications: The use of any third-party application and/or program to influence of manipulate the game environment is strictly prohibited, including the use of third-party tools, graphics, textures, models, HUDs, crosshairs, or any other alternations. Any violations that are deemed by an Official to potentially provide a competitive advantage will result in a Disqualification of offending Players.
12. Game Play
12.1. Match Settings: The following Match settings will be used for all Tournament Matches:
Matches will be players best of three Maps.
12.2. Map Rotation: The following maps will be used during the tournament: qzdm6, ztntourney1, qztourney6, qztourney7, and qztourney9.
For each Match, each Player will elect to remove one Map from the available options, and the remaining 3 Maps will be used for their Match
12.3. Match / Map Going Live: All Matches/Maps shall be constituted as going Live after both Players ready up using the F3 key and the Match begins.
12.4. Player Drops: If a Player Lags Out or otherwise Disconnects intentionally, all Points and time elapsed up to then will still count towards the final outcome. The dropped Player must come back online within 15 minutes to reconnect and play out only the remaining time of that Map. Points from before and after the crash will be counted towards the Map.
This rule will continue to stand in the event of a second Player Lag Out or unintentional Disconnect. If a single Player crashes a third time during a Match then an Official must be contacted to determine the cause of the issue. A Player with persistent Internet stability issues may Disqualified at the discretion of an Official in order to resume with the Tournament.
12.5. Match Reporting: At the completion of the Match both Players must immediately report the result to an Official. Matches that go unreported for an extended period of time may result in a Forfeit being issued against Players in violation so that Officials can proceed with the later stages of the Tournament.
12.6. In-Game Chat: All in game chat is permitted as long as it is done in a sportsmanlike manner. All chat should nonetheless be kept to a minimum. Chat violations fall under unsportsmanlike conduct and may be disputed, resulting in an Official enforcing a Penalty.
13. Match Media Coverage Guidelines. Sponsors reserve the right to utilize Match broadcasting which may include shoutcasting, IRC, or any other media. By registering for this Tournament, each Player consents to allow their image, performance, media, and likeness rights to be used.
14. Game Exploits and Violations. It is illegal to intentionally utilize any game exploits for the purpose of generating a competitive advantage. Officials have discretion to determine the intention and extent of the violation and Penalty.
14.1. Hacking: Hacking in any form is considered a violation of these Game Play Rules and will result in immediate Player Disqualification. Hacking includes but is not limited to aim bots, wall hacks, speed hacks, ESP hacks, or any third party program not deemed legal by an Official.
15. Dispute Rights, Requirements, and Guidelines.
15.1. Dispute Process: A Player has the right to Dispute any opposing Player they feel is in violation of these Game Play Rules. Disputes must be filed by contacting an Official immediately following the conclusion of a Match. A Player who is disputed has the right to file to subsequently file a Dispute against the other Player as well. A Match must be reported regardless of whether a Dispute is being filed. If a Dispute is raised to an Official too late, the Dispute may be disregarded.
15.2. Evidence Requests: If a Dispute has been filed, Officials will contact Players involved in the Dispute to request additional evidence, which may include demos (recordings). If so the Players will then have 15 minutes to begin submitting all requested evidence to the Official in charge of the Dispute.
15.3. Discussion of Disputes: Disputes should only be handled in private between the Officials and those Players directly involved. Raising a Dispute as a public matter for the purpose of appealing, criticizing, or complaining about the verdict may result in Player Disqualification and/or Match Forfeit, depending on severity and malicious intent as determined by the Official.
16. Contacting Officials. Officials will be available to contact via e-mail, live web support, and Ventrilo through the means listed at http://www.alienwarearena.com/event/ql-pcgs-09/.
17. Exploitation of Rules. If a Player attempts to manipulate or exploit these Game Play Rules in any way other than for its intended use, Officials reserve the right to make a final ruling on the rule in question for the given Match and\or Dispute.
