Alienware X51 - WoW on Ultra?
I intend to buy the new Alienware X51. Can I play World of Warcraft on Ultra settings in a fast paced 25 man raid with lots of AOE spells while holding a consistent frame rate above 45 FPS? Keep in mind that I will be running a considerable number of add-ons, FRAPS and Ventrilo.
My concern is that the components can’t handle it because of the limited 330W power supply. Then again, I know little to nothing about computers (which is why I’m buying a prebuilt one and requesting advice). Below are the specs for the system I intend to buy.
PROCESSOR Intel® Core™ i7-2600 3.4GHz (8MB Cache) with Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost Technology 2.0
MEMORY 8GB (2x4GB) Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
VIDEO CARD 1GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 555
HARD DRIVE 1TB SATA 6Gb/s (7,200RPM) 32MB Cache
WIRELESS DW1502 Wireless-N WLAN Half Mini-Card
AUTOMATIC UPDATES 330W External Power Supply

There seems to be a lot of comments/gossip about this X51 at its highest spec saying is actually under powered!...There does seem a lack of any reviews of this machine anywhere at moment, which seems a bit strange with all the hype by Dell and Alienware.
Was interested at first, but I feel it will be bogged down in a couple of years. Also it will still come with all its PC gaming fragmentation; which is bad for gaming, esp online.
I will wait for the next PS or Xbox - which will probably be best and most stable for gaming.

Also there is a difference between USA and EU versions.
The USA versions have MEMORY 8GB (2x4GB) Dual Channel with DDR3 at 1333MHz. The EU have been ripped off again by Dell by only putting DDR2.
Also the USA version Processor has: Intel® Core™ i7-2600 3.4GHz (8MB Cache) with Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost Technology 2.0. Again the EU version have been cut back with 'Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost Technology 2.0' missing!
This can effect games on higher settings, esp Battlefield 3.

I don't really care about gaming in general, only World of Warcraft. I don't play any other games, and I don't intend to play any other game ever. Just WoW.

Rich Brown's review (CNET) should be available Monday according to his post on CNET on Friday.

@Kfitz85: I'd suggest waiting until some reviews are completed before taking the plunge. I'm also looking at this box (I am capable of doing a self-build, I just choose not to :-D) but I want to see how the first set of benchmarks and real hands-on testing goes before I commit.

really though under powered or not u really dont need a hole lot of power to play wow to start with the new water effects really is the only gpu heavy feature of wow unless they changed a few things with the last add on i stopped playing shortly before the release of pandaria or whatever its called
You need a pretty decent machine to raid on ultra settings with lots of AOE damage at high frame rate.
I can run Modern Warfare 3 on the highest setting on my computer at 30 FPS, but WoW only runs at about 12 FPS.

WoW is one of those you just dont know, its not the best optimized. I have a 590 gtx and i7 2600k and when i did play it I did hit the occasional lag spike under what you were wanting. But I honestly dont know about that card.
I decided to go ahead and buy it. It's due to ship while I'm on vacation, but I'll update this board when I get World of Warcraft installed.

Eagerly awaiting your update.
I think it can. I've seen an pentium4 with 4GB of ram and a sheezy 512mb graphics card run WoW on ultra. Remember the game was in development since ~2001.
Anything worth having is worth working hard for.
