Well, I just got done with a very informative chat with Dell's customer support and I have been informed that my pitiful laptop can support up to 2GB of DDR SDRAM 200-pin at 333MHz! So I thought that, to hold me over until I finished saving for my build, I would try to get a hold of more RAM (because really, this computers biggest problem is it's lack of RAM; because of not being able to meet the RAM requirements I'm unable to play League of Legends, Everquest, and most Source games...)
So, does anyone have a spare stick of DDR SDRAM lying around? If any of you had any older laptops that you now don't use that you could salvage from? Optimally, I'm trying to get a hold of two 1GB sticks, but I wouldn't mind just having another 512MB stick and then having 1GB at my disposal! I'd buy it from Dell, only their prices are outrageous! ($62 for a 1GB stick of RAM?!?!?! Pfffffffffttt!) And unless I win a gift card or something I can't order it anyway, since my parents control all of my savings until I turn 18 in eight months, and won't let me order online unless I have a bloody good excuse (which my laptop does not qualify as)...

I still can't believe the prices people are charging for this; I'd think that RAM this old would be dirt cheap!

No, the stick I found was a DDR2 stick... darn.
I take it trying to stick a DDR2 stick into a DDR slot wouldn't be the best of ideas, right?

Anyway, a quick Ebay search shows 1GB sticks (and lower) ranging from 26 bucks US to 104 bucks US.

I've been talking to my Dad and I may be able to order a 2GB kit (2x1GB sticks) that I found on Amazon for $55...

I have a few mothballed Dell lap"s at work, however I think they are all 512 or 1GB max, so not much help to you.

If Amazon doesnt work out, let me know. I can order the Ebay ones in 2 minutes. i guess we could work something out.

P.S. Can you give me laptop make and model? I trust phone tech's about as far as i can throw a tractor trailer.

It is a Dell Inspiron 8600. I've taken a look at the inside works and it has two RAM slots, one of which is taken up by a 512MB stick. I don't know when (if at all) I'll be able to order via Amazon, though...
