X51 beep noise? repost from general discussion Please help
Page 1 of 2 1 2
I've had my X51 for less than a month. I like to play Battlefield 3. I recently updated the BIOS to A02. I have downloaded all 15 patches for the Alienware X51. I may of installed them in incorrect order. One of the patches doesn't even install correctly (enginel control management patch) Anyways, "Why is my X51 beeping?" It only makes a short distinct beep randomly. Usually after I play a video game. It has beeped just in idle too.
I think I found what it is. It is either a notification sound from sounds or my ram is loose. I found that a single short beep means loose ram or the ram does not work. Pleae let me know if I am correct. I don't thinkit is a notification because I don't see anything pop up.
Yeah, when you start to boot up your pc and it makes those beep sounds, it means there is something wrong with the hardware in your computer. Depending on the number of beeps, it means different hardware in your pc is loose or damaged. Open up your pc and make sure that everything is tightly secure in place and check to see if any hardware is damaged and repair it or replace it as soon as possible. :)

You mean it starts beeping during gameplay? How about when you start your PC? X51 has 2 RAM slots and uses dual channel RAM. If 1 chip is damaged or not inserted properly, your PC wouldnt start.
Anyways, it woudln't hurt to open yuor computer and just make sure that everything is properly connected

I completely opened my PC and reconnected everything I touched including the ram. The beep went away. I did put a 7850 and my card overheated but I turned off my pc once it hit 90 degrees. I returned the card. I must of not connected my wires properly or bumped the ram a little bit where it wasn't working properly. Anywasys, Beeps are gone. phew, I was worried for a bit. :)

May i ask you what brand of 7850 you try on your x51?
Glad you fixed it. =S Looks like i better not upgrade the x51 to a 7850 card. =S Don't want my lot overheating. T.T

Sapphire. It was a 7850OC. Some people say it works and runs 70-80's. Not for me though. :( Hopefly the gtx 600 series will work.

In wish game you got 90 degrees? And how long did it took it to get there? What cpu you were using? What are your temps now CPU and GPU while in gaming?

It's pretty straight forward as per Alienware design team
u got a 150w card , it will work for sure ( gnu slot already is 12" , so size wise no brainer there)
some expected numbers doing the rounds now
gtx 660 - 130w
gtx 660ti - 130w
gtx 670 - 150w
gtx 670ti - 170w
so if we go by these , in the worst case scenario except 670ti all should work.
And that's the worst case scenario ;)
samHoffman said:Nothing is sure as the hd 7850 is also 130w and here we are having a bad report wish is surprising as i know some one having no problem what so ever with the hd 7850K1LLERHAWK said: Sapphire. that's not the point.
so far we have only ONE user complained about 7850 , so let him answer your previous question first to see , how is system behaving under load / idle with default factory settings.if there's a problem over there then it's specific to that system.
I was referring to x51 system design and upgrade boundaries in general , coz as per alien ware tech support it should work as per the stats... simple as that

If the GTX660ti is only 130w consider it SOLD for me. the 670 might be a little to much on the heat side I would think, I could be wrong however.

It overheated play BF3 on operation guillotine. The temps stayed mid 80's until the end of the map and than the fan turned on 100 percent and the temps rose all the way to 90 degrees. I immediately turnedit off and returned the card. I had a gtx 560 superclock in their at one point and it reached 96 degrees.
