Hey everyone! I'm primarily a console gamer but slowly switching teams. Shortly I will be a proud owner of an M17x. After I set everything up, what are some of the first things I should use it for? Any essential downloads/programs and things of this sort? Anything. Don't hold back!

The first thing you should ever do with an Alienware is GAME. After uninstalling the bloatware and unnecessary stuff, I would just get Chrome, AVG, and other communication programs. You need Steam of course! Should be all set after that.

Actually to mention one thing that impressed me with the AW is that it came completely without 'normal' bloatware. It only had the AW command centre and FX preinstalled along with steam..

Yeah, it didn't have a lot of bloatware. But there are a few programs that aren't needed.

Updating your video card drivers couldn't hurt, and of course, acquiring and installing some good games! I'd personally recommend the Bioshock games.

No need to switch teams. PC's and consoles can coexist just fine in the same household. I actually have my PC and Mac within shooting distance of each other and haven't had any issues. The PS3 and 360 are right next to each other on the same shelf.

First thing to do? I am not a huge fan of digital downloads, but Steam is actually very nice. PC games aren't always as easy to find as console games and Steam works great.

Probably, the first thing I would do is install Steam and update drivers if they aren't already up to date. :)

Download RealTemp so you can keep an eye on your temperatures. Other than that it sounds like these guys have you covered man.

seems like you already got good advice. I would also buy canned air and some none alcoholic monitor cleaner, these will come in handy to clean your laptop outside and inside

yea definewikipedia has the right idea also get a nice mouse!

I've always been a PS3 guy, but I have been really getting into the world of gaming. I am learning to game better.
