questions for alienware aurora R4 owners
so yesterday i ordered my first alienware computer. SO excited!!! I ordered the $1499 aurora desktop (non ALX chassis). they only change i made to it was added the gtx 560 ti instead of the stock 555 gpu, which leads me to my first question.
yesterday evening the computer started production. how long does it *usually* take for the build time? i know it depends on what you added to it and what not but since i didn't really make any changes, i was just curious of the build time.
the salesman from dell said they generally take 10 days for build time but could take less or more time, depending. what was your guy's build time? from start of production to shipping? uggghhh they wait for this computer is driving me crazy lol!
ok now to my second and last question. like i said, i ordered the aurora R4 i7 3820 factory overclocked upto 4.1ghz (although i don't expect it to really be at 4.1ghz out of box, from what i read all over the internet from owners recieving thiers), 8gb ddr3 1600 ram, gtx 560 ti gpu. is there anything out of the box that i should look for? common problems? trying to know as much as possible about this computer before i get it so i don't go through any headaches like some people might have. thanks for any help given!

It took me a whole month before mine came, but that was due to the i7-3930K C1 stepping problem which caused my CPU to be back-ordered and had to wait for the C2 stepping model.
Well, I am about to make you happy and hopeful! lol..
I ordered mine (Aurora R4) on 04/05 and was scheduled for a delivery for the 18th. That was changed last night to being shipped and arriving tomorrow, the 13th.
That is actually pretty unusually quick. Not the norm. The usual wait is at least 2 weeks. But ya never know!
Good luck and congrats! Also welcome to the Arena:-)

nice you must be close to a shipping center.
I am in Florida and this is coming from Texas. However, I did opt for next day delivery, so that helped:)

haha actually that does make me hopeful. i ordered mine yesterday 4/11 and i was thinking it'd be here by next friday 4/20 (when i go on vacation. i too opted for the next day shipping. plus there's a dell shipping plant in the same state i'm in (tennessee)
i wouldn't have opted for $25 next day shipping had the dell sales guy not offer it for free for me ordering it from him. plus he knocked off about $70 off the total price!

Excellent deal:)
I hope it comes in early for ya, but it really depends on how many orders they have to put together at the time, whether they need to ship warehouse to warehouse to get a part, so on. I am sure there is not one guy per order putting it together though..hehe

haha no kidding! i hardly want to play games on my laptop anymore. i just bought assasin's creed revalations on steam and i'm having a blast with it. i'll be glad when i can turn the settings 100%. my laptop is decent but not anything close to whats on its way ;)
trying to take the game slow because i want to play the majority of it on my R4! first thing i'm doing when i get it is downloading all my steam games and cranking up every setting on ultra! lol.
so how does the testing work? do they complete a build, boot it up and run it under heavy load for acouple of days to make sure nothing gets hot and crashes or what?
I'm a new owner alienware R4 I order mine on the 3/26 next 3 days later they ship it 3/30 so far they don't run on weekend then i got my package on the 4/3 :D Gratz on get an Alienware :)
When I ordered my computer, Dell said it would take 4 weeks to build and ship it. i had it in my hands in two weeks.
Ordered my R4 last night here in the UK. Have quoted a delivery of 24th April which will be awesome as I am off work.
Have ordered the following:
i7 3930K @ 3.9Ghz
8Gb Ram
500Gb SSD hybrid drive + 1Tb SATA drive
GTX 560 TI 1.25Gb Graphics
XFI Xtreme Audio
Blu-Ray Combo
Also ordered seperatly 4 x 4Gb memory modules from the Dell website to give me 16Gb RAM as these worked out at 130Gbp instead of the 440Gbp Dell wanted to charge for the upgrade.
Cant wait as my XPS630i is dying!

wow nice! thats funny that you mention they don't run on weekends. my bro got his m14x on a saturday via fedex! he opted for 7 day ground so i was very shocked. mines coming "next business day" and i *know* that fedex delivers on saturday, atleast here around me they do (tennessee).
thanks on the congrats about my alienware! congrats to you also! i'm assuming the beast has been unleashed and running fantastic!?
kyuu: 2 weeks is alot better than a month but still, waiting barely a day has been suspenseful lol. as long as i get it on or before 4/20, i'll be happ! i'm on vacation starting 4/20 through 4/25 and 4/23 is my bday! i want to wake up on my bday to my aurora! lol
red666s: sound like a force to be reckoned with! i thought about the 500gb hybrid. settled with the 1TB and decided to get a 160gb ssd later. i debated on adding the sound blaster xfi extreme over the onboard sound. but those are only $50 or less from amazon/newegg. if push comes to shove, i'll add it later. it was either the sound card upgrade or the gtx 560 ti upgrade from the stock gtx 555. which the gpu was more important from the get go.

I am not really sure how they test, but I believe they test individual components thru special gear as opposed to firing up the components themselves. They certainly do not turn on your pc as a whole to test it, as they would need to register the windows7 to even get to a point of d/l games and what-not into it.
I am pretty sure they test them at the factory-produced level, then put it together:)
Enjoy!
