Ivy Bridge released! -Need opinions.
Ivy Bridge has been released today as the third generation of modern intel processors and I need some guidance.
As many of you know I am half way there when I am building my rig. I have been waiting for these processors for some time now, and now that they are out I can finally finish up what I have started.
There are currently five processors to choose from and I would like to know which of these is probably the best value for the money. I understand that none of you have these yet, but they each have specs and you guys are the experts.
i5:
Intel Core i5-3450 Ivy Bridge 3.1GHz LGA 1155 Quad-Core $199.99
Intel Core i5-3550 Ivy Bridge 3.3GHz LGA 1155 Quad-Core $219.99
Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz LGA 1155 Quad-Core $249.99
i7:
Intel Core i7-3770 Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz $319.99
Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz $349.99
Which do you guys think is the best performing for the money? I just remember that the i5 2500k performed better than the i7 2600k and 2700k.
I appreciate ANY input.
Thank you for checking this thread.

I honestly think that value per dollar, best bang for the buck, falls with the i5 3570K. At stock clocks it falls between the i5 2500K and the i7 2700K on average. Overclocked it will easily be as good of a chip as the 2600K. And the price is just right. It's a really strong chip that hangs with all the top processors, fluctuating in the zones of the 2600K and even the 3770K in some cases.
I posted some of the reviews I was reading this morning in this thread if you would like to check them out. Great set of processors.

I wonder why they charge $100 extra for just hyper threading, .1GHz more, and 2mb of extra cache 0.o
i wonder if the price on the sandy bridge has changed

nope still the same

I see no logical reason as to why the price would not go down. Most people will buy this since it is the same chipset and the same price, also, the processor is better and more energy efficient.
I've seen some benchmarks for games where the i5 2500k outperforms the i7 2600k
i think like on crysis and a few others, but it wasn't a big deal
only by a few frames

ya, 2500k out performed the 2600k mostly in gaming scenarios sometimes, they are both great chips. http://www.anandtech.com/show/4083/the-sandy-bridge-review-intel-core-i7-2600k-i5-2500k-core-i3-2100-tested/20

Give it time, I guess... it would only be the logical path for Intel to drop the price a bit.
