Ordered My M17x R4 2 Days Ago...2nd gen, now 3rd?

So, the R4 I guess just came out and I went and ordered mine with the 2nd gen i7, Gtx 660M, 8gb ram. My question is....today they changed the 2nd gen to the 3rd gen with no additional price(added into price). Do I need to call and change my order? just trying to figure out what I should do since I wasn't informed about the 3rd gen coming out nor was i told by customer service.

This also applies to anyone who just purchased the M17xR4 a few days ago.

Yeah, I think you should call them and change your order. The 2nd gen i7 might be enough for gaming, but why settle for one when you can get a better one for the same price? Additional performance never hurts :D

What defines you is how you react to disappointments.

Definitely change your order, especially if there's no price difference.

On Alienware's facebook page they said they would automatically upgrade the orders of any R4 to the 3rd gen processors, so yes your computer will ship with the new Intel CPU congrats!

"Might be enough for gaming" Haha, understatement of the century! An i7 Sandy Bridge processor will be more than enough for a good five years, haha!

So...wow, that took awhile. Just got off the phone with a rep and I explained the situation and everything and he went on to tell me that 'I would get what I ordered' and I wouldn't be getting the 3rd generation- The only way he said was when I receive the laptop i'll have to ship it back to them to put the 3rd generation in it. Even-so wasn't the R4 suppose to come with the 3rd generation anyway? Anyway, I decided to go online and talk to a rep about my order status- He went on and stated that I will get my 3rd gen and everything was automatically switched over yesterday.

So, either i'm misinformed or someone on their end is.

Hope the online person was right. You can try to email support to confirm the second person is right.

I've been on the Alienware Facebook page and Alienware has been telling people there that if their order had not shipped when the Ivy Bridge processors came out, they would add the Ivy Bridge processors to those orders with no extra cost.
Whether this is true or not, I don't know; but it would be not good for Alienware to tell so many people that but then have it not be true.

Just from my experience with Alienware and Dell tech reps is that each one you talks too says something different. If it were me I would keep nagging them by giving them calls. Though I am not suggesting you have not done enough of a good job with them, I'm just sharing my experience merely here, if they are still making your computer they can defiantly change it. Though I will tell you what I had to do with mine when they incorrectly we're assembling it with parts I didn't order was cancel it, get my credit back, and then re-order. I actually got a better deal on my m17 because I talked to a different agent.

From what I have read and this may be argumentative, but there is not a significant different in the second and third generation processor. Yeah you have more efficient and faster over clocking and there is a new upgraded WIDI 3.0 software for connecting displays wirelessly and the HD 4000 integrated processor graphics, but depending on what you are running you will not really recognize it. I have a sandy bridge i7 2760QM and I run battlefield3 and adobe suite with ease.

Enjoy your machine man!
