Man, I finally just got Windows 7 a couple of months ago (after having Vista FOREVER), and Windows 8 is already almost here. I call shenanigans.

You still need to wait for windows 8 to become stable and get a few updates out imo.

^^this

I have heard some good things about Windows 8, and not so good things. I agree, I will wait the obligatory four months or so before even considering it. It just seems still in Beta phase until then.

I actually do have a real life, I just don't remember what the password to it is...

With Programming it really doesn't matter what Windows OS you have. But about the Ram and the programs you use.

Windows 8 may be the first OS i skip out on. however, knowing me, I do like new stuff and will probably put it on my machine, but not for a year anyways or until SP1 is out or coming out.

I will wait like I did before getting windows 7. I skipped vista completely. Win 7 is a wonderful OS.

Thanks for the update. I am fine with the Reg. Windows 8. I have the Consumer Preview thanks to Maximum PC in a virtual window. They are trying to make it "personal" and simple I feel, but that is just me. I am waiting for what it can do with Xbox games.

With my experience with Windows 8 I will probably be buying it upon release! (depends on the price, of course...) Even in the Dev preview (which hasn't received an update for a couple of months) it is pretty stable and most features work great and all the programmes I've tried work as well! (except for my wireless card drivers, which is why I reinstalled XP* this morning [might re-install Windows 8 when I am not in the middle of finals])!
Overall I'm pleased with Microsoft's developments!

*I found my laptop's original copy of Win XP Professional, so it seems my OS problems will be over for a while!

so far I have used win 98 and 2000 long ago, XP for some years majorly, Vista for about 3 years which was the biggest pain and now 7 for about a year and a half or so which I'm glad.

Won't get 8 immediately upon release but will wait for tech reviews to kick in

I understand what MS is trying to do, synergy between platforms, etc etc, but I predict W8 will be the next ME or VISTA (which wasnt that bad with years of updates) and W7 will be the next XP....IF MS allows it. If they put a hard date on dropping support and disconinuation of security patch's.

The METRO part will flop on the desktop IMHO. Especially all this touchscreen nonsense, except for POS terminals and such.Who in thier right mind would rather use a touch screen than mouse and keyboard?

I jusr recently got the last few workstations replaced with W7 machines (skipped VISTA) and I'm not going to bother with W8.
A lot of LARGE companies (where the real money is) are still on XP and i bet they go to W7 rather than w8.

But then again, i bet on the Flyers last night, so what do i know?? ;)

Actually, I have to disagree. I used Windows 8 Developer Preview as my primary OS, and this is, like, barely a Beta (hasn't received an update since February). And it was almost EXACTLY like Windows 7 (except for the Metro start screen)! All of my applications worked, the interface was easy, I had a problem-free experience... nearly, my laptop's wireless adapter isn't compatible with anything beyond Windows XP, which is why I ended up switching back (I need my interwebz). And surprisingly, the whole touch-screen interface thing didn't ruin the experience for mouse/keyboard use! Instead of swiping, you can simply click or use the scroll wheel! It was very natural and moved very smoothly! And the touch-screen interface is primarily geared toward tablet use, which is wise of Microsoft, because tablets are growing swiftly in popularity, and having a full OS in an easy, mobile form factor is highly desired. So unless Microsoft completely screws it up before release, Windows 8 should be pretty damn solid from the get-go!
So, yeah, I'm excited for Windows 8; EXTREMELY excited! I cannot wait until release day!

(P.S. You know, after year or so of updates, Windows Vista wasn't half-bad, all things considered... I play Oblivion at my grandparents house (they have Vista) and didn't even have trouble installing some old DOS games!)
