X51 owners have problems? Read this!

Ok fellas been drinking a bit so bare with me lol. At any rate if your like me you got a new X51, have had it BSOD on you nonstop and are wondering how to fix it. Like myself i am guessing you have been on the phone with support (multiple times), gone through the paces and still have it crashing on you every time. Well the following list of simple instructions should help you get along on your merry way.
First off you have to realize Optimus Technology is crap (ya i said it). In fact it's such crap Nvidia no longer supports it. Now that's not to say it won't be great sometime in the future but for now the tech behind it just isn't there yet. This is the main reason you are having errors with nvidia.exe/driv etc crashes. So with that being said I will give you the driver info you need to get your new X51 running like a champ.
For the record within the first 3 weeks of owning the X51 i had 19 crashes. After the steps listed below i had a random lock up in a game once but that was it. Been 3 weeks of smooth sailing. No more bsod when typing, viewing the web etc. So hope this helps.
*For the record this is for the GTX 555 card/ Setup when giving driver versions*
**Side Note: Each time you download/install a driver go through your normal reboot process to get them all installed and good to go like normal.**
1. First off your going to want to uninstall your current Geforce device driver (via device manager). You may also want to uninstall the onboard video driver as we are going to be changing that as well.
2. Update your onboard video driver via the windows device manager update driver option. Basically on the intel video in device manager click on it, click check for updates and let it do it's thing.
3. Next you will want to download the proper driver for your GTX 555 card. Go to Geforce.com (not nvidia.com it has the wrong one oddly enough) and you want to download driver
296.10-desktop-win7-winvista-64bit-english-whql
It should pull it right up for you.
4. Open Nvidia control panel, click on Manage 3D settings and in the "Preferred Graphics Processor" box set it to "High Performance Nvidia Processor"
This way the Optimus garbage is turned off (thing that's causing your bsod everyday) and your on all the proper video drivers.
Anyway fellas i know this is a pretty sloppy write up but like i said hell, i been drinking lol. This has solved all issues i have had with the X51 system and it has been screaming through games, inet browsing, microsoft word (lol) and anything else i have thrown its' way ever since.
Hope this info helps some of you. The X51 really is a great little system it just sadly ships with current drivers (and nvidia settings) way out of wack. Especially sense Optimus is currently a dead/on hold technology.

The first thing I did when I got my X51 was ditch the OEM driver and get the newest one from Nvidia. Not one BSOD yet.

The X51 is an entry level gaming PC, it's also new and may be prone to a hiccup or two. You can't spend $699 and expect the performance of a machine costing 2 to 3 times as much. The X51 is small in size, but can give a much larger gaming rig a run for ti's money. You need to keep your expectations at a realistic level though.

*facepalm* updating the video card drivers is hardly a big issue. Most people do it whenever new drivers are released every few months. Yes I agree that this issue shouldn't be happening, but you can literally fix it in 5 minutes.
Am I one of the few people who has an X51 and had it run perfectly since the day it arrived?
The optimus system works great for me.

well i know maybe i can im mexican who can speak , understand english pretty well, but of course i have really bad grammar.. but the main problem is that i havent found the driver whit spanish here 296.10-desktop-win7-winvista-64bit-english-whql so im not sure if that is gonna work
actually i dont have the computer atm its still in production... but i have heard about alot of problems whit that kind of computer....

Waymule, GTX555 will blow Diablo 3 away. I mean it. GT555m plays it in highest detail, 1080p at around 60fps. GTX555 is good enough to play BF3 in high detail, maybe even some ultra, im not sure
I wouldnt worry about all these problems you have been hearing about. Keep waiting for your rig, you will not regret it. Once you get it, power it up and update your drivers like the OP described. It's a clean install. You do that and your rig should work just fine

You never see the majority of owners that have no problems, just the people that have an issue. The X51 will be more than capable of playing Diablo 3.
Congrats Waymule! I'm looking forward to Diablo 3 myself! I haven't had issues with my X51 at all, it's awesome.
:S okay i will wait for it... i was calling whit the service center , the support and all those guys.. they told me they know about all the issues whit the x51 and i hace 2 options, cancel it rigth away or wait to the deliver and have it for 7 days and in those days i can ask for a refound or change the machine .. so im waiting and gonna use it 24\7 whit music , youtube and diablo 3 at the same time if i dont have any problems im gonna keep it if not bye bye alien :( im really confused they even dont know what to say they know theres those problems.. alot of complains....
the 1st thing I did when I got my x51 was to turn off optimus! have no problems with my comp :-)

haha funny post. Yeah, I've never been a beliver in it and it's had problems since it's predecessor, which I can't remember the name of it. I generally do a clean install when I get my new PC but generally Alienware does a good job with not putting on crap.
