G55VW or M14X

Question:
G55VW
M14x

I have been wanting a M14x for a long time now and it is a really solid gaming laptop but ASUS has the G55VW and it seems to be better over all. portability is the only area where the M14x is better.

G55VW:
Screen- 15.6 inch (1920 - 1080)
Processor- i7 3610qm
Video Card- GTX 660 DDR5 2GB Vram
RAM- 8GB 1600MHz
Hard Drive- 750GB
Web cam- 2.0 MP
Fans- 2
USB Ports- Four 3.0 Ports
Weight- 7.3 pounds
Price- $1,270

M14X:
Screen- 14 inch (1600 - 900)
Processor- i7 3610qm
Video Card- GT 650m DDR5 1GB Vram
RAM- 6GB 1600 MHz
Hard Drive- 500GB
Web cam- 1.3 MP
Fans- 1
USB Ports- one 2.0 and two 3.0 ports
Weight- 6.5 pounds
Price- 1,270

So i was thiking unless i can get Dell to give me a really nice discount then im going for the G55VW. Unless there is some flaw that you guys know about or how the M14x is way better in some ways.

p.s (i was also wondering if you can take the G55VW apart like you can with the M14x)

I want a loptop to game on but also take with me to class. For example diablo 3 or skyrim.

I vite for the G55VW. I like that extra inch of screen space.

And i vote for M14x. My reason is bad experience with Asus. I mentioned several times that my friend and i had 3 asus laptops, all failed within 2 years, all had keyboard problems, 2 of them monitor problems.
Still, Asus does offer more for you money. GTX660 is clearly a better card and with more space it was possible to install 2 fans, so better temps. Despite that i will never buy an asus laptop again. I should also mention that these 3 asus laptops we had were all different sizes and segments, work, gaming and ultra portable. all 3 with similar problems.

I am biased towards the m14x, but what are you using this new rig for?

I have never owned an ASUS before but I have an m14x and can tell you from personal experience that their tech support for me was outstanding. I was having some issues and was on the phone for no more than 15 minutes and a part was arranged to be sent to my location overnight, quick and easy.

I have an asus G53SW, never had any problems whatsoever, just added an SSD to boost performance, so if its reliability that you have an issue with on the ASUS computers, I wouldnt say that is an issue. Alienwares definitely look nicer though. Always wish I had an M11x cause this thing aint portable.

Aesthetically i think Alienware trumps pretty hard against the Asus, but if you want to get the most power for the money you put in then you should go for asus

yeah, most of us like/love AW here. But if someone is asking for advice there is no way we will insist that AW is the best option. Many times it is not, as you can see votes are divided. It's personal opinion but in this case AW is better despite weaker GPU.
Like Diesel said, a single purchase can make or ruin the brand for you. For me asus laptops are garbage, too many similar faults in several asus laptops i had

But the alienware will have to be replaced in a couple of years because the gpu isnt that great and cannot be changed. so doesnt that make the asus a little more valuable?

dont get me wrong i love alienware and the way it looks and have been wanting one for a long time but this darn asus had to just pop up on my computer one day and started to make me seriously think about getting one. I need exuse to get alienware tho. lol

Well, if your asus dies on you within 2 years than no, it's not more valuable:P Yes, M14x has an integrated GPU which should last about 2-3 years. Of course at the end it will play games on low details only.

If you want excuse to get AW... how about alien fx?:P Asus doesnt have it and it looks just sooo cool:)
AW being rare may also be a positive thing for some. It was for me. Many people have asus laptops. Not many have AW. You'll be unique:P
Than again, asus does give you more for your money. I'm not sure how good their customer support is, but if you decide to go with asus i strongly suggest extended warranty

Out of the 2, I'd probably go for the Asus machine. The standard Asus warranty is 2 years with the first year covering accidental damage, which is another item to add to the M14x to up the cost a bit more.

Don't get me wrong, I love my M17x and wouldn't trade it for the world; but I've had nothing but fantastic luck with Asus hardware over the years and I've used several of their laptops for extended periods (6 months + for work) without a snag.

In this case, the cost / performance ratio has the Asus beating the AW. Now if you can get a deal (Google "Dell coupon code" and you might be able to take a big bite out of the cost of the M14x) and this could turn around really quickly if you can stack a few good deals together.
