I have to admit that the only time I ever check Announcements is for the Sweepstakes winners. It's almost impossible to know there are new announcements on the site. Articles is easy because there's a nice box for it on home page.

What I'm suggesting is to instead of having them as separate pages on this site, how about just having the admin posting it as a thread in its own forum section? This allows our community to see what's new and discuss it easier. We won't have to create our own threads about it. Admins can check those threads and effectively communicate with us.

If the admins do decide to do this, the home page "Hot Stories" section could be changed to Site News and could link to the threads. It might end up looking similar to the "Forums & Comments" section though.

One complication is that only admins should be able create threads. I'm not sure if the forums have that feature.

What do you guys think? Great idea or really not worth the trouble?

It shouldn't be just a thread that links to that page. It should just be a thread with the content inside. Many of their announcements are simple anyways so having a forum post on it would be simple as well. The articles can be of similar nature too.
