I was wondering not which ap burst midlaner would dominate others but which one would counter most of the midlaners. I came across Galio, his passive will let him convert 50% mag res into AP.

With this build:

Mag res (quints + glyphs)
Mag pen (marks)
Armor (seals)

You would have 24.06 mag res (quitns + glyphs)
12.69 armor (seal), 8.55 mag pen (marks).

Starting with null cloak and 2hp pots.
You will have a total of ( 24.06+6+30 +24 ) 84.06 magic resistance (runes + masteries + base + null claok). This means a reduction of 46% mag dmg form the other mid laner + you will have 42 AP (his passive converts half his mag res to ap) + 3 (masteries) so a total of 45 starting AP. (ofc this is not incl the other mid laner's mag pen the most basic midlaner would run 21/0/9 or 21/9/0 that will give 9 + 10% (your target mag res) would be around (9+8.4) = 17.4 mag pen so you would be left with 66.66 mag res (reduction of 40% ap dmg)!

Just by looking at the numbers going galio mid as a counter to ap champ's is a great choice so why dont i see a lot of galio's in both ranked and tournaments? Galio's poke and laning power is very good, last hitting might be hard but if you manage your mana problems that wouldnt be a problem either. Plus you have the flash ulti for a secure gank oppertunity and late game team cc. Did i forgot something? Thanks in advance for the comments on this build.

P.S: I wanted to build galio a bit more to the side of AP instead of tanky but ofc that would be dependant of the opposing team the basic build would be (merc treads/sorc boots, rod of ages, aby scep, rab death cap, 3 situational items: frozen heart, guardians angel, void staff, banshee veil, force of nature). Going galio mid would imply top/jungler to be an AP dmg dealer.

He's a pretty good counter for LeBlanc I guess, and I suppose thats a solid build to counter most mages and making sure that they deal minimum damage to you as much as possible! ;D

i like Galio mid a lot, his passive is a great way to counter other AP characters

he aint as astrong in early game tho..due to being not ranged o.o and less def

Less def you have armor seals isnt that enough? Seals (9) + mastery (one point in def tree) you will have a total of 39 armor from lvl 1. And he has a 3.5 armor gain per lvl 1, compared with others mid laners you wont reach those lvl armor and mag res and still with a ton of AP for your skills. So that def you mentioned is not true at all. He is not ranged that is true so he will need to be able to accept some harras but that doesnt mean you cant harras with your skills, if you land some Q skills a the start the other laner will be cautious and wont be that agressive since he knows you will trade better then him. This will often lead to 2 situations either your lane is not pushed nor his or his lane is pushed wich lead to jungle ganks oppertunities.

the new item Athene´s unholy grail will be very good on galio

Since you are mid you should grab armour per lvl seals or hp per lvl or just more MR. Major buff to him thou with the Athene's Unholy Grail though.

He is good against all ap if you know how to play him of course such a counter mostly for Le Blanc,Veigar I think and all the flat ap champions

yea definitely, if he gets zhonyas and then he will be golden against both ap and ad

he counters much of the mid laners since he benefits from mr pretty well.. also his ult is in teamfights

galio is a great counter to the burst bases champions such as LB and kass maby even Ahri.
