m17x R4 Switchable graphics not working
When I press and reboot the computer the graphics do not work and it says on the 660. I use afterburner to tell. How can I fix this ?
How long have you been using your computer?
I just got it last Friday but I haven't touched it till yesterday when I got my cooler and its my first alienware. I know what afterburner is and cpuz, hwmonitor as I use on my other computer. I'm not sure how to use the switchable graphics at all.
So what you have got to do is:
1) First make sure that you're not in the integrated video card mode.
2) if you pressed FN + F7 just once leave it that way, because you're using your 660.
3) Go to Dell website and download the video card driver. Use your service tag to locate your computer and the drivers it should have. Or you can also get the driver from the resource data DVD that came with your M17X. (I recommend you to download it from Dell)
4) Install the driver and reboot. You should probably be using your 660 now, but if you're not, just press FN + F7 one more time and enjoy! = ]
I had the same problem, but with my AMD 7970. Just got mine 3 days ago.
I hope that works for you, it did for me.

Do you have the 3D configuration? If you do, Optimus is disabled.

No I do not. The gtx660 works fine. I'm talking about switching to the integrated graphics to save battery if I'm just surfing the web and watching videos.
Sounds like an issue with the integrated graphics. You may want to contect Alienware about this if you've only had the machine a few days.

If you have the 660 GTX, you are using the nVidia Optimus Techhnology and it does the switch autmatically (no action needed) fo Fn+F7 won't do anything, this is for AMD video cards on this platform.
Here is how to take advantage of the optimus technology.
