[Wireless Crad] Intel X Killer

So guys, I've recently got and Alienware M17X R4 and I have an Intel Advanced N-WiFi Link 6250 a/g/n 2X2 MIMO with WiMAx and bluetooth. When I got mine, they were probably out of the Killer wireless cards. Is there any much difference between my Intel and a Killer 1103 a/g/n 3X3 MIMO with Bluetooth?

I know there were issues with the Killer cards in the past with connecting to certain games, but I think those issues have been weeded out. I prefer the Intel cards only because Intel is a lot bigger of a company than Killer and you will find a lot more updates to their products if there are issues or new features. Honestly, unless you've got the slickest newest wireless network/routers set up in your house, either is fine. I use wired myself and still haven't gotten a Wireless N router, so either of those two are useless in my situation. Only thing I like is the WiMax ability. I have a Clearwire modem, and even though it can't connect to your cards WiMax feature, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon could. In order words, if you got the mac address of your card and signed up for a wireless 3G/4G broadband data service for either or those networks, you could theoretically get internet wherever it is provided by those wireless carriers. I use my Clearwire USB modem wherever I can't get free internet or the connection is too slow!

I have been an M17x R4 too, been trying to figure out this whole WiMax thing. And everyone I have talked to about it from Comcast to Verizon know nothing about it too.

I mentioned that in order to utilize the WiMax feature you would need to have the mac address of the wireless device. I'm not sure if there's a way to find it in the computer, but i'm sure there is for the software that controls the Wireless network device. Otherwise its printed physically on the wireless card itself. The mac address is the only way to utilize the WiMax feature so that AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, or T-Mobile can link their Broadband 3G/4G service to your device instead of you having to purchase a 3G/4G hotspot or usb broadband stick. While Comcast doesn't offer a service like this, Verizon should and you should talk to their tech support since their customer service might be clueless. Also a call or email to Alienware might help that way they can advise you on how to proceed with setting this up. Remember though, typical 3G/4G broadband data service runs about $50/mo for about 4 or 5gb of service. Anything over is $10/gb. I can easily go through 4-5gb of data on my iphone streaming a few netflix movies. Games usually aren't very demanding even if they are World of Warcraft of playing BF:3 online. For Clearwire, the service is fast, unlimited (unless they throttle my speed), and the latency is better than my dsl landline connection. Unfortunately clearwire doesn't support WiMax Intel internal cards (I think...) but my Wireless card doesn't have that feature either.

Note: The only other drawback to the internal WiMax thing is the fact that since its internal, if your signal is weak where your laptop is but strong over by a window or against a wall, you have to position your laptop there for the best connection. Whereas a hotspot device or my clearwire usb stick + usb antenna hub can be positioned almost anywhere to allow a laptop to have a connection without needing to be moved much!
