Best graphics card upgrade available for x51?
Hey everyone, I just got an i7 x51 and was wondering which graphics cards are available that fit inside the x51 and don't require too much power from its limited lower supply. I'm very pleased with the computer but always planned on upgrading it so am looking for the best possible graphics card I can put inside it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I've heard of success with the 550Ti since its got much lower power requirements than the 560Ti and even the 570. You might have success with the 560Ti as long as its not an overclocked version!
Not sure on the AMD side though, but the AMD equivalents work beautifully!
550Ti is a little over $100 on newegg.com so it won't break the bank. 560Ti is close to $200 which isn't too bad. Personally i'd wait on the possible 650 and 660 models from Nvidia. They should use even less power than the 550 and 560, and potentially exhaust less heat!

Heya. Congrats on the new Beast:)
The only two recommended cards for the X51 as of now are both Nvidia's. The GT 545 and GTX 555. However, there are those who have managed to put more powerful cards in with some success. The two biggest factors to overcome have been heat and power. I would imagine the power is not too big of a work-a-round, as the X51 uses a brick, but still caution needs to be there lest you fry your beauty.
I will let those more educated than me mention what cards they have been able to upgrade to. I heard of one creative fellow who put in an HD 7850 by moving the hard drive temporarily into the DVD slot. This free'd up the airflow for the graphics card and he said his temps never went over 60c. So I guess anything is possible..lol

I actually do have a real life, I just don't remember what the password to it is...

The i7 model has GTX 555 card right now.
Considering that this card, while not the greatest, is pretty decent, I would recomend waiting a year or maybe even two and then upgrade with 650 or 660 as Isendar said, or maybe with a series 7 card (depending on what they are like).

As I walk through the vally of work and study I shall fear no boredom for my laptop is with me.

I've seen videos of people running the X51 with a 7850 and also a 7950. Check out Youtube.
People have had success with galaxy gtx 670 but you gotta turn up the fan up with msi afterburner
