X51 Problems
I recently received my new x51 with the GTX 660. Its been less than a week and I am already having problems with it. If I run games like Dawn of War 2:Retribution, Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, Counter Strike G.O. for longer than 5 minutes the game's framerates dip into the low 15's and the sound becomes distorted and the games crash and force me into the desktop. I have already tried installing new drivers and even rolling them back to the ones that shipped with the system. I am tired of dealing with this problem My two year old Viao FW never gave me these kinds of problems. I have spent about two hours total with various Alienware reps discussing this problem. They said the hardware is fine and that I need to upgrade my warranty to discuss the issue with the "gaming" department. I still have a few days to return the desktop and receive a refund which I do not desire to do. Someone help me please!!!!!!!!!!
Is anyone going to help me?
The lack of replies could be cause the X51 with GTX 660 is new so there is a lack of people who had and solved the problem. Wait a day. Sorry.
As I walk through the vally of work and study I shall fear no boredom for my laptop is with me.

Thanks for the reply. I'm just a tad frustrated I got the I5 model with 8GB of ram.
No prob. I understand it can be frustrating and X51 is somewhat buggy. Right now two things that give me grief is that mine wont sleep and that fans get quite loud when I play a game (GPU goes to 81 degrees).
What you should do is get a tool and see how the temps behave. Get something that will tell you the GPU and CPU temperatures cause if those go too high it could cause the crash. Course usualy that triggers a shut-down and I dont think it affects the sound. To be honest it sounds a bit like a memory leak but that doesnt make any sense.

With that kind of customer service I'd return it and then order a new one. If they want to screw you, screw them back!
I read books and occasionally play games. www.sffmania.com

Hi Compy, I'll be more than glad to help you. Have you checked the temps?

i think it's a overheating problem, download realTemp, and GPU Z. . .post your temps here so we can check if it's normal or not
I have logged in some temps from gaming and having my X51 idle

I would use the in-game display on MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision instead. That way, right when the problem happens, you can see the GPU temp on the screen.
I'll check that out then. I was discussing the issue with a friend and he said it could be a faulty card. Here is my card at idle

Hi OP,
Are you using the DVI output or (mini) HDMI output on the video card? The on-board HDMI output may not work fine with certain games. Also, try to set your x51 to high performance and see whether your problem will be solved.

HDMI. I set it to high performance and max power output
