Is there any specific hero's new players should start out learning to play?

I'd say Night Hound is quite easy to play as beginner.

Mainly because when you reach level 6 your invisible and can check out whatever you'd like without getting killed 24/7 :).

But to be new, I mean really new.

"Hey, whats this? Heroes of Newerth, lets try it out. I wonder if its like counter-strike..."

Then its hard to play either way... :) Make sure you give it time and try to understand the game!

Btw, flaming is very common in this game, don't be offended. People got quite fragile minds when it comes to noobs :D

imo dont even try to play normal or ranked games as a noob! just go for no stats games for awhile and maybe even just random and you will get a feel before you go play games for psr and mmr where people don't like noobs! thats my best advice no stats games are your friend :)

i think i remember that these were some of the easiest to use and to learn the game with.

If u are new to HoN you should not pick a hard carry like The Dark Lady or Night Hound. thepi is on to somthing. Good heroes to start with. Might wanna pick some semi-carry, Hag is a good beginner hero i think or Bubbles. Don't start to play Blood Hunter and ebery thing is ok.

well armadon is also an easy hero to start ur hon experience . he is tanky enough and he has 2 passive abilities that work for u without needing skills to use them ;)

I'd say nukers like Witch Slayer and Thunderbringer who both easily deal a lot of damage without too much effort.

yeah but still, witchslayer + thunderbringer is so easily killable. You will die a lot.

I stick with my Night Hound advice, since earlier post mentioned "you should not play hardcarry, like dark lady or night hound" I will elaborate.

Night Hound got passive invisibility, a blink, a silence/slow + a passive damage skill.

2x passive, silence / slow + blink. Can it get more easy? Really?

You can stand invis in lane, just minding your own business without getting ganked, only to last hit creeps and wait 3 sec untill your invis again.

You can Pounce enemy heroes and right after, you Smoke Bomb them and just autoattack for some serious damage and who knows, you might get a kill. If not, just go back, farm some and don't worry about dying.

Because you are invisible! (not while your attacking though)

Good beginner heroes imo is Plague Rider, Witch Slayer and Armadon

Witch Slayer (Nuke hero... stunn, slow, mana drain) easy to play... recommended :)

would really recommend swiftblade, easy to play and not really a hero whos spells are hard to use

Play supports to begin with. thats basically most int heroes and a few str heroes like magmus/behemoth and jeraziah. Where you basically play to let the others get farm and help them out getting kills. And dont play AGI heroes to begin with, because the team should be built around a "agi" so therefor he will get a important role that the rest of the team can rely on.

most agis are easy to get the hang off, and there are a lot of complex int and str heroes... but if your new, the first thing you should do is learn what every hero does and learn all the items before you even play online
