Upgrades

Pages: 1

Im looking to purchase the 17x but only have enough to purchase about $300 in upgrades. Which would be best the Nvidia 260's in sli, or the quad core cpu? I would be using the laptop for gaming mostly. I know if i purchased the 15x model I would have more available for upgrades but i really like the montior size of the 17. Any help would be much appreciated.

Well, all I can say is that I just got my M17X and wish i chose the 2 SLI 260's. Any way I think You'll do well with either upgrade.

Yeah the sli was the upgrade i was leaning towards but was'nt sure if the core 2 would hold back the performance of the gpus. Did'nt want to pay for graphics performance if the cpu was gonna throttle it.

Either is a pretty good choice.

You'll definitely see better gaming performance in the short term out of the SLI configuration. There's not very many games that make use of quad-core processing power right now, but more will in the future.

Is it possible to upgrade the processor on the M17x? I didn't have the money to get all the processor I wanted when I bought my machine, but I did get the T9600 CPU. I want a quad core in it. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

The motherboard chipset for Core 2 Duo and Quad Core are different, so you can't effectively change over to the other without also replacing the motherboard. It's a package that works together.

Trugb27,

It depends. You should contact the warranty department and they'll be able to give you direction based on what it is you want to do exactly.
