i seen some video footage and it looked like world of warcraft..
It is similar, but no. This game is above WoW in my opinion. Alot more to do, the world is constantly changing.
Though all new mmos will be related, since it is smart business to take something that worked for someone else and improve upon it.

It is similar to WoW in the sense that it is of the same genre. Both games are MMORPG where you attack with spells that you probably put on your hot bar. There are dungeons and raids in both games, and both games have a similar style of PvP. Rift distinguishes itself with its unique style of doing certain things. There are outdoor events called rifts where anyone who wants to participate can, and anyone who comes late can still participate. There are usually 3 to 5 phases of a rift where players collaborate to battle enemies (often elites) and eventually a boss. The dungeons and raids have been claimed to be much harder than those of WoW. The gameplay is very similar, but Rift tries to separate itself from WoW with what it does. I'd highly recommend you give a demo a try. You won't be disappointed
Another feature this game has that distinguishes it from WoW is the ability to change your class specs up on the fly. As a mage I could go from high DPS while soloing and then switch up to healer to help people near me close a Rift without having to go into town to make the changes.
The biggest selling point for me outside of the ever changing world with rifts etc, s the customization of the classes... I can level up a rogue for instance, and also be a tank, healer, or dps, and I have 8 souls to mix and match as I see fit, and I can have up to 5 different builds at once.... It keeps things very interesting!!!

every mmo looks the same. But its not about that. Its about the gameplay witch its totally different.
got the 7 day key from the site ........need to check it out
Definetly better then World of Gaycraft. I enjoy playing rift alot more, and there is definetly much more to do.
the game is cool .. but still a little boring ..
Take WoW, delete everything you dislike about it or wish it had, you have Rift.
i think they're pretty similar
When you look at all the MMORPG genre there are going to be similarities between any two games you choose. Everyone compares things to WoW because currently it is the largest game in the genre. WoW was not original either. There were many games before it that had the same playstyle, looks and feel.
Taking this in consideration there are a large amount of similarities between Rift and WoW. As most of the other posters have said there is a few glaring differences between them. Mainly the open party world quests. They are random and some are quite difficult to deal with depending on the size and style of the rift. This is alot of which first brought me to Rift. Having that changing world and still keeping the "regular" MMORPG flow and style that we were used to from WoW (and other MMOs).
The class system is much different and better in every way IMO. 5 specs to work with and much more options for each class. Being able to heal, tank, dps and support all with one character is a nice addition for most players. I have this in WoW as well because I have one of every class at max level, but I have to gear every character and swap to them when it's needed. In Rift it takes 2 seconds to turn from a DPS into a tank or heals, no need to swap to a different character or even change gear in most cases.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up. Also, all MMOs are going to have similarities. However, I think Rift has raised the bar quite a bit in many aspects.
