World of Warcraft

300.000 subscribers less in just a month.

According to this post subscribers of World of Warcraft finally remembered how great the first two installments were when compared to what there is now. I hope Blizzard takes this very personally and keeps it in mind for their future games because what they've done to the game in the past five years was a disgrace to the company.

What do you guys think of it? Do you think it's the end of World of Warcraft?

Well that's no surprise. The game is just less appealing as it used to be. IMO, they need to redo their philosophies towards the game. The money grubbing is just bad. I am not going to pay $25 for a server transfer... that should be free (like Rift). The game has become very easy as far as PvE goes. Moreover, I bet players are upset about Blizz's promises. We should have gotten the Water Raid (Abysal Maw as I recall) a while ago. It still isn't there. Finally, WoW is an aging game that is losing customers to new MMOs (Rift).

That being said, 11 million subscribers is pretty insane. They are losing people, but the game is far from dead. I hope they take note of the loss of subscribers and decide to do something to remedy the un-subbers' complaints.

I think the biggest mistake they've made in-terms of longevity, is dumbing down the content so that even the casual players get to experience it. I agree that after a while you might want to lower the difficulty level on old content but not so far as to make AFK raiding work.

Back during the Vanilla days, if you saw someone with their T2 set, you knew they had put their time in and knew what they were doing. It was something that was recognized; now everyone and their dog has the best gear in the game. When everyone can clear a raid after a month of working at it (even those who regularly wipe in heroics) then you know you've got a problem.

First they lost 600,000 subscribers and now they lost 300,000 subscribers! I personally think WoW is going to kill itself.

Now regarding the subscription drops. The game is too easy. I remember the days when epic gear actually had value to them now everyone and their dog has an epic item.

Even still i remember when BLUES were always fun to get.

"experienced players chewing through content more quickly with each new release."

I disagree. The game has become so easy that ANYONE could beat the content that is being put out. And with the "Welfare Epics" that they just hand out nowadays its no suprise.

With the introduction of the flying mounts they have RUINED the exploration part of the game.

Vanilla WoW will always be the best in my eyes.

Rift wounded WoW, but i dont think thats the killing blow.
SWTOR and GW2 should get the job done.

I'm actually almost convinced that Diablo 3 will kill WoW. It will be funny to watch, anyway.

Diablo & Wow are not the same kind of games, i know D3 will not be replacing wow ... i will play both :)
(D3 for occasional play, and Wow for night pve raids ! ) :)

Diablo may very well not be the same kind of game, but no way it is a casual game. Have you been watching the features and everything?

I don't think it is the end of WoW yet. The numbers will decline for a long while before it loses it's top spot.

I hear that when you had your Gear from Core or Blackwing and there wasnt any of this saving it for months while you ground it out fight by fight it meant something to be a Raider. One of the reasons after near 7 years I'm looking at a new game (Old Republic) I just finished the grind of the Firelands dailies for the 2nd time and realized I was replacing gear from raids with stuff from Dailies......the stuff your suppose to be getting as a bandage because the gear didnt drop for you raiding.

I agree with this completely, I drudged though burning crusade, and left multiple times before wrath, with my final ending being wrath.

Vanilla was grand! It was quite an accomplishment to get 40 people working in sync to down a boss, and it took months and months!!! I loved being able to pvp in t2 and t3 gear, and people werent doing 20k hits on each other with 100k hp.... Or spending thousands of gold for ridiculous things.

Maybe it is a good thing they have dumbed it down. I think if they would have kept it as hard and time consuming as vanilla was for the enitre life of WoW then a lot more people would have flunked out of college. A baby that someday cures cancer may not have been made due to desire for loot overwhelming the desire to build a strong real life relationship. The unemployment rate would be even higher. Not getting enough sleep because of the 12 hr a day High Warlord grind does affect your job performance, and supervisors do notice.
