Master Yi Guide "I know kung fu..." |
Early Game
Constant use of Alpha Strikes will leave you low on mana very quickly. Additionally, if you are using Meditate to regain health because the opposing champion is harassing you, you will have even less mana available to use for Alpha Strikes. A way to counter these issues is to make sure you have a good amount of mana regeneration at the start of the game, either through runes, masteries, or items.
Mid Game Team Fights
Once team fighting begins, your focus should be on the squishier AD/AP champions on the opposing team. If you begin to be focused by the enemy team, using Meditate to regain health and increase your armor/magic resist can help you stay alive long enough for your teammates to finish them off. You can also use Alpha Strike preventing the enemy team from targeting you during its duration.
With early points in Wuju Style providing you bonus attack damage, you can focus on critical strike, attack speed, and movement speed in your items.
Doran’s Ring
Although, it may appear an odd choice for an AD champion, an early Doran’s Ring will provide additional health, much needed early game mana regeneration, and provide bonus damage to Master Yi’s Alpha Strike ability.
Brutalizer into Youmuu’s Ghostblade
After getting your boots, you will want to build a Brutalizer for the damage and armor penetration. This will be upgraded into a Youmuu’s Ghostblade which has an activated ability similar to Master Yi’s ultimate.
Zeal into Phantom Dancer
To prevent Master Yi from being kited, you will want to ensure you have significant run speed to close in on enemy champions as quickly as possible. A Zeal which then becomes a Phantom Dancer will provide you that additional movement speed, as well as critical strike and attack speed.
Double Strike [Passive]
Double Strike will allow Master Yi to strike his target twice on every 7th attack. Keeping track of this will provide you opportunities to ensure you don’t let a potential Double Strike go to waste.
Alpha Strike [Q]
The first ability you will want to max, early game Alpha Strike allows you to close in on the enemy champion in order to harass them. Additionally, Alpha Strike deals significant damage to minions to allowing you to farm more easily. Late game, Alpha Strike will be a great tool to close the gap on enemy champions.
Meditate [W]
Around level four, you want to put a point into Meditate. Meditate is a channel ability that will restore health over a five second period and also increase your armor and magic resistance during that period. This will allow you to stay in your lane longer rather than returning to your base to heal.
Wuju Style [E]
The next spell you will want to max, Wuju Style will grant a passive damage increase which will allow you to focus on non-attack damage items early, such as critical strike, attack speed, and movement speed items. Additionally, Wuju Style has an active ability that will double the passive damage increase for a short duration at the cost of losing the passive ability during the cooldown period of this spell.
Highlander [R]
Master Yi’s ultimate, Highlander will increase your movement and attack speed and make you immune to all slowing effects during its duration. But it’s passive ability is what turns Master Yi into a potential terror for the enemy team. Highlander’s passive will reduce the cooldown of your spells by half after every assist on a kill you make and completely refresh all your spells after you kill a champion.
Backdooring
Backdooring is when a champion pushes a lane without minions to take down a lane’s turret and/or inhibitor. The enemy team is forced to respond to such an attack or risk losing multiple turrets or inhibitors.
