Clan Challenge 2010 has got to be one of the biggest eSports events in the history of Australian gaming!
Enlist your clan before it's too late - http://www.alienwarearena.com/event/clanchallenge/
There are a multitude of good players 16 and up that I have seen. I have a 16 year old son that has played and progressed up through the top clans in Australia and he now plays in a clan sponsored by Microsoft and Telstra.
The rules should encourage and encompass players like this and not stifle them. Alienware should at least allow players to participate that have some credentials as mature clan players. Maybe their clan leaders could act as a reference to allow younger, mature good players to participate.
Due to legalities at the moment I do not see the age restriction changing.
I would be interested in those laws if you can find out because other competitions are held all the time where prizes are offered to minors. Even if their parents received the prize on their behalf if it was money which I don't think we are talking about in this comp.
The age limit is rather.. well silly.
I dont see how u think you are going to get 120 odd teams with just 18+. not only that but not having it at least 16+ u just cut out a majority of the aus community
Yeah the age limit is bad, because I am a 16 year old and playing cod4 and this could have gave me a chance to play a lan tournament, and i know lots of people that are 16 and that are heaps good
honestly the age limit is fine. Alienware is aware that there are certain laws that they must abide by and I don't think they want to deal with under 18's being brought in from other states...
its actually quite smart and I congratulate them for the effort they have put in and the competition they have come up with.
cant wait to start :)
yeah i think the age restriction is fine. Even if people under 18 were allowed to come, their parents would want to come to supervise etc, and it would create too much hassel. Maybe even lower the age to 17. that would give a wider variety of players. I just hope i can find my passport in time haha.
mf- Stamp of Approval
I wonder what these laws are, I thought they were about prizes not travel. If the child is under age as far as travel is concerned sure a parent should pay their own way and accompany them. Even if they are not allowed to fly minors in then let them make their own way. If they are local then I see no reason a 16 year old cannot play with his clan. I assume the event is open to spectators so parents coming would not be a hassle, if not get them to drop them off. I doubt many parents would have an issue dropping off their 16 year old to be with his clan mates and picking him up later anyway. I am assuming the issue is travel now of course as I don't know what laws everyone keeps referring too.
your son isn't sponsored by Microsoft or telstra
First of all you wouldn't know.
Second of all I never said he was, I said his clan was and is.
i would know, and he and his team isnt
Lol some Noob that knows everything surely not. O_____O
On topic, nice to see a comp down under with some good prizes.
Great Job guys.
@ RetroGamer
That is the biggest ******* ******** statement i have ever heard. Sponsored by Microsoft + Telstra. First of all, name me one PC Based team that microsoft have sponsored. Telstra DO NOT SPONSOR ANYONE... LOL If your going to lie atleast call them Telstra's Gaming company "gamearena".
The reason there is a age restriction is because they are flying people and giving them accommodation. You need to be 18 to be able to sign at the door of your hotel. Simple as that.
Nice try ******* ******
Retro gamer.
No clans are sponsored by Telstra or Microsoft. Go back to being the nobody that you and your son are.
Leave the gaming to the big boiz you moron.
LOL Team Sidewinder is one for starters. NOOB's
I suggest you both leave the gaming industry comments to the people that actually know what they are talking about. Secondly my questions were addressed to the organizers not you kids, so if you don't mind..
Ta.
@retro gamer. You are trying to argue with the best in australia cod4 here and some decents. Who is this "son" you talk of? surely if he is in the top 50 in aus we'd know him. and Who are you? no nobody rand. Your opinion holds no credibility and is invalid. BL
btw TSW cod4 is dead and node has become games.on.net BL there as well.
Lol I'm not 'trying', to argue with anyone, and certainly not with the , 'best in Australia'. I am just waiting for an answer to my questions from Alienware who I think are fantastic and reading the silly stuff in between.
you aren't trying to argue? your trying to say that telstra still sponsor... and holding on to that conviction...
Do you even know who are the best teams in australian cod 4 are? no. period
You opinion is invalid. You are a nobody.
You still haven't said who this "son" is. avoiding?
Telstra have sponsored Team Sidewinder.
RetroGamer raises some valid questions
about entrants and is relevant.
Who RetroGamer is, is irrelevant.
Who his son is, is irrelevant.
Who the best COD4 teams are is irrelevant.
RetroGamer raises some valid questions about entrants and is relevant. - he raises an opinion. He never asks why the laws are so.
Who RetroGamer is, is irrelevant. - no, no credibility therefore a scrubber opinion.
Who his son is, is irrelevant. - incorrect. if he names his son it adds credibility to his name. Makes sure he isn't lying. becuase he's said nothing, therefore we can assume he is making a fib up.
Who the best COD4 teams are is irrelevant. - wrong again. The best cod 4 teams hold experienced and expert opinions.
simple reason, laws. don't argue them on the net. if you want something change go protest to the federal government or something.
"Telstra have sponsored Team Sidewinder - it was microsoft. hence"
Hence what ?
Telstra HAVE sponsored Team Sidewinder like I stated.
Contact monpepe the head of Teamsidewinder but you already knew this didn't you lol.
Or try Talnoy at : -

The second post after your mate mf made a fool of himself.
"RetroGamer raises some valid questions about entrants and is relevant. - he raises an opinion. He never asks why the laws are so."
He asked what the laws were. Which was on topic and fair enough.
BTW people are allowed an opinion that differs from yours too.
"Who RetroGamer is, is irrelevant. - no, no credibility therefore a scrubber opinion."
A scrubber opinion eh ?
You are a tool.
"Who his son is, is irrelevant. - incorrect. if he names his son it adds credibility to his name. Makes sure he isn't lying. becuase he's said nothing, therefore we can assume he is making a fib up."
I'd say you're about 10 years old after that post.
"Who the best COD4 teams are is irrelevant. - wrong again. The best cod 4 teams hold experienced and expert opinions."
Shame they weren't the topic then eh or that would be on topic ?
"simple reason, laws. don't argue them on the net. if you want something change go protest to the federal government or something. "
Or you might try asking the people that run the competition what those laws are so you can understand them. Just like Retro did. Sigh.
--------
Sorry people I fed the TROLL lets ignore them from now on.
Actually I am interested in what laws alienware are referring to now myself.
I don't have an answer for you as I have not been given one myself. Its simple though that there will be no exceptions to the rules. They apply for all or no one.
Thanks for the response Rippey. Although it is a bit lame to cite that there are legal reasons for the rules and not cite what they are when asked.
@ spicon
sure they can opinions different from me. Just they should not embellish stories to support their opinions.
So what you say against me are:
1.I'm a tool
2. illogical argument differing from the main contention.
3. I'm ten.
4. I'm a troll
good work mate. to quote an experienced player and admin:"it's idiots that post rubbish like that leave companies to do massive things like this. "
done and dusted. bye.
Oh and rippey, You probably won't even get 64 teams tbh and only around 20 will be decent.
