No more worries for the disk storage, Western Digital made hard drive of 12TB

  • 749

Did you manage to fill your current hard drives? We know that the SSD is getting more popular and more affordable technologies and really is genius, but it is not worthy to buy huge SSDs just for games, it is better to buy a good old HDD of huge capacity, is it not? It seems that something like that is considering Western Digital who have made their new version of the disk 12TB capacity.

For details on their mechanical beast you can read on the official website where you will see that it is normal size of 3.5 inches, has a 7200 rpm and 256MB cache that allows data transfer of 255MB/s. Interestingly, this was achieved by using helium, which is much rarer than air, and enables stable use of thinner disks.

We do not know at what price will go on the market, but we assume it will be for those with deeper pockets because the product is specifically made for large companies. Nothing should stop gamers to get their hands on this giant and we believe that some people certainly squeeze it into their cases, but to the average player for now a couple of terabytes is more than enough.

How do you deal with the space on your disks?

Great, finally decent huge storage,

Even if we are slowing down with the size of the storage...

I've never managed to fill my 2 TB drive, I somehow doubt I'll need 12 TB any time soon :P

Prepare to pay through the nose for this.  Hopefully this will push lower capacity drive prices downwards.

Another way to make hole in the wallet...currently managing all games only in 1 TB HDD and some cloud service. In future, thieves may try to steal these instead of wallet.

Wow. Fantastic, maybe with this I can download all Steam games I want.
