AlienFX Lights not working.

  • 80

Hey guys,

So about a week ago I turned on my M11x R2 (pretty outdated I know) and noticed that the back lights on my laptop wasn't working. The Keyboard, Speakers, Power Button, 'Alienware' lights are all off exept for the alien head on the laptop lid. I also decided to restore my laptop to factory conditions and nothing changed. I read up a couple of tutorials online about this problem and none really seem to work. Today i booted it up normally and then the lights turn on again but they're white. I wasn't able to change the color. I updated Alienware Command Center and my BIOS. When I turned off the laptop the lights are off again.  When I right click the AlienFX on the taskbar I have: "Keep Status Zones On During Go Dark" and "Enable 3rd Party Lighting Effects" Checked but I cant check Dim Lighting Zones. When I right click the AlienFX icon this Message comes Up:

ALIENWARE ALIENFX

There was an error while AlienFX Controller was communicating with the computer. This might have been caused due to a problem with the hardware or the software.Try these solutions to correct the issue, in the following order:

 - Try to enable AlienFX Controller again. Right-click on the AlienFX icon in the Windows notification area and select 'Enable Alienware AlienFX'.
 - Shut down your computer and power it back on.

If neither of these solutions works, please contact Alienware technical support.
This error may also be caused if Alienware AlienFX software is installed on a computer without the proper hardware support for Alienware AlienFX.

Please help lights aren't too important but I'd like to use it in the dark sometimes.

Thanks for this post, I started having sporadic issues with AlienFX after the Windows 10 update, and I had forgotten about simply right clicking the tray icon and selecting "Enable Alienware AlienFX".

Thanks - I've ran into that before where I would restart and the lights were out on my AW 18. So I told it to "go-dark" then did a quick-change color and bam it came back up.

what if i accidentally removed my alienfx??? can i redownload via this site?

  1. This is a really old thread, start a new one
  2. M11x is an older system and is nearly a decade older than a 17 r5
  3. Command center software works way different in the newer alienware systems
  4. Run command center as administrator

Usually when lights don't work it's because of a physical problem, my m11x had trouble with lights and had to replace the entire keyboard to work again
