It begins: WoW: Shadowlands now under requirements has SSD

If it is to judge by the hardware requirements for the upcoming World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, players will have to exclusively use the SSD for that game.

The transition of consoles to SSD type storage disks should, as expected, raise the requirements on the PC platform as well. While some will say that SSDs have been the standard for PC platform for years now, the fact is that games were not designed to take advantage of that hardware. That is, the games did not require the user to own an SSD so he could play them.

There were some exceptions, for example Star Citizen which is practically unplayable on the HDD, but in general on the PC it was always recommended to use an SSD, but not required. But, as we said a moment ago, that could soon change. And it seems that we have already got the first game that requires SSD under requirements.

That's World of Warcraft: Shadowlands whose minimum hardware requirements specifically specify an SSD with 100 gigabytes of free space. Now, this doesn't technically mean that it won't be possible to install the game on old HDDs, but it is obviously suggested that players with an HDD will spend more time loading the game than playing it.

The Shadowlands expansion alone will be significantly more demanding than Battle for Azeroth in all segments. For example, the GeForce GTX 960 graphics used to be enough for what was recommended, and now the GTX 1080 is required. While instead of Intel's Core i7-4770, the Core i7-6700K is now required.

Here is the full list of system requirements for WoW: Shadowlands:

Minimum "Leeroy Jenkins" configuration:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5 3450 / AMD FX 8300
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 / AMD Radeon RX 560 / Intel UHD 630 (45 W)
  • RAM: 4 GB (8 GB for integrated graphics)
  • SSD: 100 GB of free space
  • OS: Windows 7 (64-bit)

Recommended "For The Horde!" configuration:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5 3450 / AMD FX 8300
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 / AMD Radeon RX Vega 64
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • SSD: 100 GB of free space

I think that since last expansion, BFA, the load screen are already slow to load and the SSD was already a recommended setup
