US Residents: How reliable is Dell.com shipping?

  • 7

This is the first time I purchased something on Dell.com and I chose Expediated Shipping. Curious to hear from other customers how fast the shipping was. Like when I choose free standard shipping from the Microsoft Store, I usually get the item in 3-4 days....

Does Dell.com hold the sale for 24 hours until it's confirmed THEN it ships? I got an email that the purchase was made, not an email saying it's been confirmed and preparing to be shipped.....

When I ordered my X51 a few years back it came 2 weeks earlier than the estimated time of delivery. However I live near Tennessee which houses the major FedEx hub so getting it sooner was expected. Then when my X51 pooped out the first time I sent it off and they sent me a completely new one with an updated graphics card at no charge whatsoever and only took 4 business days. It all depends on where you order from (Amazon, wal mart, etc.) and where you live in the states. Oh and like years ago when I used to slither around these forums nobody is going to want to reply to your questions much because everyone just wants a hand out via the ARP system.

edit: You’ll get a notification when your order has actually shipped. Login to your Dell account, Order Support, enter order # (not a shipping number, this is your order #) and it will tell you your updated status. You’ll see your estimated ship date and arrival date at the bottom of the page. Once your PC has shipped Dell will create you a shipping # and then you can track your package on the carriers website or from Dell directly.

well Dell itself isnt the one who's shipping it. they just give it to a mailing service(s), USPS/UPS/etc.., but they rather come quickly, my  recent order came a abt 3days earlier than expected.

I've made many orders from Dell.com over the years, and from my experience it's either hit or miss... though unfortunately the majority of times it's a miss. The shipping/delivery isn't a concern as once the product ships the courier usually delivers within 3-4 days, however the issue is when the product actually ships.

As an example, my most recent order from Dell.com. My son's birthday is August 28 and he also starts University in mid-September, so we decided to gift him a laptop which he had been wanting.

I placed an order for m15 R6 and Vindicator Backpack on Aug.19, at which time it stated Get it by: Wednesday August 25. The next day(after placing order) I received an email which stated Estimated to Arrive By: September 3. We were disappointed that it was not going to arrive in time for birthday, despite the original date given, but we understand delays can happen and it would still arrive before his University start date.

I never received anymore emails from Dell, so in the next week I checked my account to see the order status and was surprised to see the delivery date had been updated to Estimated to Arrive By: September 28. This was unacceptable, now the 3rd different delivery date, had already missed birthday and now would not arrive in time for University which was the primary purpose of this purchase. I contacted the Support team, which had no answers but assured me they would send a "ticket" and have my order "expedited" so that I would receive sooner.
In the following days, the only email I received from them was a Survey to rate their service and ask if I considered the issue resolved. I again checked my account and I could not believe what I had seen.... Estimated to Arrive By: October 13!!!  I immediately contacted Customer Support again, this time to cancel my order.

After a lengthy discussion with CS, they informed me I could NOT cancel my order, as it was in "process of being shipped" frown. My only options are to wait to receive the order and then return it for refund... but there is a catch, my refund would be -15% restocking fee, - original shipping, - return shipping (plus insurance costs, as they will not issue a refund if package becomes damaged during return). Or to simply keep it when it finaly does arrive, which is basically what they are forcing me to do unless I want to lose several hundred $ on their BS return policy.

There has been 2 additional updates to my order with Dell.com in the last couple weeks.

Estimated to Arrive By: October 29. and currently Estimated to Arrive By: November 8.

Needless to say, I am furious. angry

I am in the same boat with you here.

I ordered an X17 on July 23rd, 2021 and it entered production on Sept 17th, 2021. It has been stuck on that ever since. It looks as if I am going into my 4th delay. I am getting fed up with waiting and the fact that nobody at Dell can tell me what the heck is going on with my order. This is not the kind of experience I want to have as a first time buyer from Dell.

I bought a new custom PC (not from Dell) on 9th Nov 2019 and got it at the end of Mar 2020, seems to be an industy problem, maybe caused by the lack of semiconductors
