Old setup: i5-4690K / 16GB ram / GTX 970 / Z97 Motherboard / H90 Liquid cooling / Corsair 760T case / 650W 80+G PSU / 240gb SSD + 1TB HDD / Razor deathadder mouse + keyboard + headset / Logitech speakers + subwoofer + 144hz 1ms 24" AOC G2640P
New setup: Alienware 13 (i5-4210U + 8gb ram) + Alienware Graphics Amplifier Radeon R9 290X Tri-X Sapphire + 34" LG UM65m 2560x1080 + Alienware TactX Keyboard + Mouse + Headset / + Razor sound box + subwoofer.
Definetely in love with this new set up, it performs exactly the same as my old set up, obviously a little less in CPU intensive tasks, but the main deal, it runs all my games on sweet smooth ultra graphics @ 2560x1080 ! People always ask me why I sold my gaming PC for the alienware 13? Well this is why:
- I was sick of Syncing files from device to device, slowing my wifi, waiting for it to be synced, worrying about which device has what.
- I was sick of not being able to game on go and not attend any lan parties that my friends hold (yes they still exist)
- I was also sick of being on my pc and having to swap over to my laptop everytime I wanted to add a sentence to the 3000 word report I was working on while running programs on the big screen.
The solution: Bought the Alienware 13, can game on the go with most games running on High graphics with 860M, it is portable and light, has almost the same weight/dimensions as a Macbook pro, the A13 has a beautiful sleek design, nice finish on the laptop, always get comments on it, the LED lights is a bonus too. Most people complaing about the CPU without even owning one of these, It has a built in overclock on the BIOS option which I enabled for when I game with the R9 290X, and like I said up earlier ^ It has not disappointed me one bit. Yeah, I might get less in a benchmark score, but what of it, this is a 13" laptop at the end of the day, find me another 13" laptop that is light, sleek and can pull off 6-7 hours of juice while I'm studying at Uni? Most people will mention a 15", 17" crazy monster laptop that is triple the size, triple the cost and triple the weight.
I love coming home, putting my laptop onto my desk, 1 plug with the amplifier, boom. 34" Monitor, keyboard, mouse, surround system, ultra graphics on games, multi tasking, coming from an owner who had a PC rig + ultra-book, I can definitely never go back to that again, this is the most ideal for me.
Price?
My old setup: $2,033 [Gaming tower] + $900-1200 [A good ultra-book] = Total $2,933 - $3,233 [That is without Peripherals + monitor]
My new setup: $1600 [Laptop] + $340 [Amplifier] + $450 [R9 290X] = Total $2,390. [That is a 13" 1920x1080 daily+gaming laptop with R9 290X power]
Overall, I love Alienware and I've experienced a powerful self built gaming PC, and like I said earlier, I will never go back after using this Alienware 13 + Amp system.
