BREAKING: Valve announces new Steam sales taxes in 10 countries

  • 303

This announcement was obviously leaked from Steamworks

Now soon to be history:

Q. How does VAT work on Steam Sales?
A. We only collect VAT in the EU. In all other countries, we are selling cross-border and are not required to collect VAT. Steam pricing in Europe is VAT inclusive. On a periodic basis, Valve remits VAT collected on EU sales to the revenue authorities.

My sympathies to all gamers affected.

It will be interesting to see  what impact the new taxes will have on Valve's sales revenues as nations with many Steam users are hit by these new fiscal regulations.

Just as i was about to post an article regarding Australia that will be paying 10% more for steam games starting in july. I need to take less time choosing a steam photo on google images.

It's pretty shitty considering this article back in 2014 says that it will add the australian currency on steam, but they still don't have it added to this day.

Now the poor Aussies are screwed twice :(

You're right citizens of EU countries are taxed already. But aside from a few states in the US these are the only Steam users who pay taxes until now. I imagine that users in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, India, South Africa etc. will not be happy  about the change.

Yeah man! i think too, they will not be happy but yet.. i see that governments have to make their money someway (legal!) lol ;)

Looks like the government is finally catching on, with taxing online game sales. At least we get to see the total price including tax before buying the games.

Had been a long time, that the governments were not aware of these digital sale strategies. Although living in Europe, Switzerland was my small shelter, being free from EU taxes ;-). Times are changing,..
