Bolivian government does not like open world of Ghost Recon Wildlands

  • 61

Bolivian government sent a formal complaint about the display of Bolivia in Ubisofts upcoming game Ghost Recon Wildlands. Bolivian Interior Minister Carlos Romero sent complaint to the French embassy in the capital city La Paz and said that with Ubisoft will go to court if necessary. Resources for that they have, but first they would like to go with the route of diplomatic negotiations.

The Minister of Bolivia does not like that his country is in the Wildlands is shown as an area controlled by the fictional Mexican drug cartel Santa Blanca. It is not, however, clear what the ministry is asking from Ubisoft and on what basis they intended to prosecute.

Ubisoft's official response to accusations of creating damages to the image of Bolivia said that the country was chosen for the location of the game because of its magnificent scenery and rich culture in which they hope to be faithfully presented in the game. Of course, that is not entirely true because Bolivia as the third largest producer of coca leaves in the world is convenient choice, but Ubisoft during the exploration topics approved shooting of a documentary about the impact of drug trafficking on Bolivia and South America.

How will this situation develop and what possible action from the Bolivian government means for the game itself, we will see in the future.
