What microtransactions? You need "only" two and a half years to unlock everything in the game

  • 266

Just like many other games with a focus on multiplayer, Ubisoft`s For Honor has cosmetic and mechanical accessories that you can buy with the currency in the game called Steel, and when you run out of that currency you can compensate it for real money. So is to believe that people are willing to invest in these accessories.

But, this weekend on Reddit appeared a lengthy analysis of the game`s microtransaction system and it turned out that to unlock all features for all 12 heroes we need 1,098,000 Steel aka 7.32 packages of 100 dollars, ie. 732 dollars. Steel is earned after every match and with special occasions, and is calculated that players who play for fun a few hours a day should need more than two and a half years to achieve this.

Some fans have attacked user who analyzed the game, but there`s on Reddit also those who continue to believe that it is not okay to pay the full cost of the game and than suffer such microtransactions. Generally it is said that such a business model is okay as long it is only about cosmetic items, but it seems as if everything has its limits, and probably could be found and worse examples than For Honor.

What do you think of this policy? Do you pay for the little things in the game with real money?

This reminds me ...

I've recently started playing Paladins.  One achievement has you playing 250 hours in a party with someone from your Steam friends list.  I like the game (a lot).  I just hope my friends stick around long enough for me to get the achievement.

On-topic, this thread makes me not want to even start For Honour.

Frankly, I think to myself you're okay old man, has nothing to do with the games, but I guess I get what you're saying :))

AtagiKawa is cool

Microtransactions turn into a must have. Publisher know how to milk their customers. They will add more stuff like this to get even more money. Its all about the business. Bttlefield started as a single game now it has a normal game for $60 (not mentioning the exclusive, collector or whatever version) a premium, paid dlc, booster, shortcuts, battlepacks... I mean wtf is this scam. We only want a game to play and no one wants to buy a game which got splitted into paid dlc pieces.

Some games require microtransactions. Without them you are only playing a demo version or get beaten by paying players. Its really bad.

Princess

I blame this on the mobile gaming explosion. (phones, tablets, etc)  They starting showing how willing people are to spend a dollar here and a dollar there for in app purchases and now all game devs are jumping on board.

There is no such thing as a buy and play game anymore.  :(

Oh boy, lets calculate how much it costs to buy every cosmetic on CS GO, TF2 and Dota 2. That alone should tell you how much people are willing to buy shit just because they want their stuff to look good (i'm not including people who specifically buys them to make profit).

700 is barely anything compared to other games, if they are only cosmetics, then i don't mind, they take advantage of a shitty practice that people are suckers to it and they get their extra money. Tons of companies do that, so there's no point targeting ubisoft specifically for that. If it doesn't affect the game then there's not as big of a deal.

What i do mind is that they do not repay people who grind at all. If it's a pay 2 win, there is absolutely no point in playing this game if you don't spend cash, and with this shitty practice, it will die out in a couple of months. There's also the fact that Ubisoft keeps killing franchises and making mediocre bland shitty games with downgraded graphics. And this one isn't different, and that's without including their abysmal servers that lags people out.

As long as people buys their shitty products, they will keep making them, same with EA, same with every other companies.

The Sheriff

I think the biggest take away from this and my time playing isnt even the microtransactions for cosmetics.  Thats a personal choice.  Do what you want.

The biggest issue is actual weapons/armor that you unlock/find at the end of matches.  Its far to slow, I dont think there is any other way to unlock them, and its completely random what youll get.

I've put in about 20 hours and Im still close to the bottom on gear score.  Its a nightmare system to grind through.

Interstellar

When I play beta test I reach 1 prestige for ~10 hours and has rare 7 lvl for each stuff (except helm), but I use stuff ~ 3 lvl coz they was more ballanced than 7 lvl, I want to play only singleplayer but I don't want to pay for 8 hrs of gameplay, I don't believe that someone pay for game and then pay 700 $ for microtransaction lol

Give me game I boost you for free :D

potato

Paying $50 for a game and then discover it has the same currency rules than a free to play ...
