Feminist video series Tropes vs. Women in Video Games came to an end
In the last five years, the video game industry has been led by a debate that has caused more controversy than it made fruits. The discussion that seemed to be a vicious game of broken phone at a time was about a video series titled "Tropes vs. Women in Video Games "directed by Feminist Frequency and author Anita Sarkeesian.
Yesterday, this series came to an end after 16 major and five bonus episodes, the last of which covered the theme of female characters as helpers in the games. Since the creator of the series received death threats after almost every episode, it can be said that the success of the series has finally came to an end. And for Anita Asrkeesian that is, like she says, a bittersweet moment.
"It's definitely time to finish with this, time for me and my organization to move on. But, I continue to think of all the ways the video game world has changed since that day, five years ago, when I started with my humble Kickstarter campaign. Not all the changes were better, but some of them certainly are. "
"There are discussions that are now happening between players and game creators, dialogues that have not happened before, discussions about for whom are the games (for everyone!), about what kind of impact they can have, what can they tell us about humanity, empathy, race , sex, sexuality, the world we live in, and the world we want to create for ourselves, "Sarkeesian concluded.
However, these discussions do not exist on the YouTube Channel of Feminist Frequency because reflection on the position of the female gender in video games within Tropes Vs. Women's series was merely a one-way affair.
