Payday 2: Ultimate Edition and VR Beta Coming Soon

  • 820

The above trailer showcases the upcoming VR for Payday 2. The beta starts some time in 2017 and will be free to all owners of the game. It looked cool but I wonder how they will address movement in the game. Most VR games utilize teleportation. For a game like this, I don't think teleportation would be beneficial at all to the game. Well, at least you can fix a broken drill in VR!

Payday 2: Ultimate Edition is big news. For a game with so many DLCs, any new player trying to get into the game and realizing he or she has to buy all these DLCs will realize it costs way too much. As a result, Overkill Software has decided to make it easier by selling the Ultimate Edition on June 8th for $45. For that low price, you will get every single DLC that is out right now and any future content. Now... that's a steal. Do note the two DLCs you can't get for free will be the "Ethan and Hila Character Pack" and "Completely OVERKILL Pack". All of the proceeds for the character pack goes to the two individuals and the other DLC was a timed exclusive that will never be released again to respect the players who invested in it. I actually own that Completely OVERKILL Pack but at the time, all it gave me was weapon skins so it was a pretty disappointing investment. The pack is way much better now with some cool masks!

After the Ultimate Edition is released, you will no longer be able to buy DLCs except that character pack mentioned above. For the time being, you can buy any DLC for 85% off. This is your last chance to get all the DLC for cheap. If you are a current owner, you're going to have to do the math to see if it's cheaper to buy the DLC now or the Ultimate Edition later. According to the FAQ, those who don't have all the DLC, the Ultimate Edition will be priced based on how much DLC is missing. So if what you are missing is more than $45, you should buy all the DLC for cheap now or it will be more expensive later.

For those who still haven't played the game yet, $45 seems like a great deal for all the content you get and WILL get. I've always loved the game and spent so many hours playing it with my friends. So for those who haven't tried it yet, now is a great opportunity to play it. The game is still going to receive support until October 2018. Payday 3 is in pre-production so don't hold your breath waiting for that.

What do you guys think about the upcoming VR and Ultimate Edition for the game? Is the VR too gimmicky for this game? Is the Ultimate Edition worth it to you?
