Blizzard found a way to get around Chinese regulations in Hearthstone

  • 355

This year, China introduced new regulations for online gambling and gambling industry, to which Blizzard does not agree to go. In particular, we are talking about the need to disclose information about the frequency of loss of rare and legendary things from boxes and chests with loot.

Blizzard has already covered Overwatch from the requirements, allowing players to buy gold, in a bonus to which the boxes go. Now the company has found a similar method for Hearthstone.

A new update on Chinese servers disables the ability to buy card sets. Instead, players must acquire Arakan's Dust. As Hearthpwn reports, Blizzard simply provides free card sets depending on the size of the purchase. And no regulation.

How long Blizzard will shirk from the regulations in China - it's not clear. However, if the government insists on them, then more stringent conditions will be imposed.

So the game is basically gambling and Blizzard is trying to find a way around it. This regulation needs to be spread worldwide.

I do not agree at all.

A: What business do governments have of telling me if I can or can't gamble?
B: This sort of thing has existed so long, ever heard of a pack of cards? Like real actual physical cards that have been around for decades?

I have to admit I'm not a fan of micro-transactions. I really don't like that business model and I question the place in gaming (though I am currently playing a game that relies entirely on them). But, it damn sure shouldn't be the government's place to decide what a game can do. Do we really want to open the can of worms further? Deciding game content? I think not.
