You won`t believe, but it was released the synopsis of the story for Half-Life 3
If you've already lost hope that Half-Life 3 will ever come out, we're not blaming you - we're no longer optimistic about that either. However, something has just happened that could easy half of life without Half-Life 3 and make some sort of conclusion to the whole story.
Namely, the leading screenwriter of HL games so far, Marc Laidlaw, who left Valve just as any other screenwriter, on his blog shared summary of the story we would get in the third episode of Half Life 2 or the third part of the series. Laidlaw in the text changed key names (characters, locations, and games), perhaps to avoid conflict with their former employer, but fans quickly deciphered the whole thing.
The synopsis itself does not go into tiny details but generally gives the contour of the story and description of the main events, along with what should be the conclusion of Half-Life 2 saga (but not the whole series). You can read the full text here.
Of course, with the consideration that Half-Life 3 has gone through many changes and till today`s day has not yet been announced, it is quite possible that this is one of the early ideas for the story, and there`s a question how much would of this scenario eventually end in the game if the same was completed.
